Some of you may remember the free explosion code and media given out in Newsletter 46. Here is an updated version with transparent sprites for AppGameKit!

All 35 sprite sheets have been meticulously removed from that horrid black background using some groovy code posted by Mage a while back which uses the Image Kit by SvenB (and my own sprite making utility).

Enjoy: Download!

EDIT: There's also a sample project with an example of how you might use the spritesheets

My generosity is only outshone by my extreme modesty.

Just realised I went on about getting rid of the horrid black background and then put the demo on what? A black background...

Here's an example image on a nice starry background!

Nice work, baxslash!

EDIT: Hmmm, when I run the demo, all I get is a white background.

MORE EDIT: Never mind, it's an older computer and was just taking a while to load the images.

Thanks Rich! Glad you got the example working. I was just thinking about it while I was out with the dog last night, how handy those sheets would be for AppGameKit if they were transparent and my mind got working on the solution...

Took less than an hour to add some code to my sprite-sheet maker, get the images and code up an example.

I've used the old DBP code in so many projects I knew this would help people a lot!

Nicely done, baxslash! I used some of those explosions in Brixoid. Replaced most of them with my own, though. Thanks anyways.

Cheers

@baxslash, do you mind if I place your explosions in a new folder on my machine. I want to collect all the free AppGameKit media as it emerges from the community. I thinking is that when I have enough, I can offer it for free to the AppGameKit community as a compendium of goodies. I often find some great art gets buried under a torrent of posts and never gets discovered. Naturally I need permission from the authors to start such a hoarding activity

I drink tea, and in my spare time I write software.

Lee, of course!

I'm not the 'original' author anyway, I just converted the old freebie set to transparent

Distribute them however you like for perpetuity.

No problem, bax. Glad to help the community. I'm working on a free song which is almost done, and more free animated sprite sheets as well.

Cheers
