Greetings to all; so it has been a very long time since one of these contests have occurred, October 2012. As vice president of the forum, I figured it would be good to have another one of these contests. I hope this creates a little activity on the forum, as the forum seems to have hit a little lull the past week or so.

So this thread is what it sounds like, a contest to create banners for the TGC forum! For the record, I have not yet contacted any TGC officials about this, but I am hoping that they will support this thread if it ends up producing some good banners (Clonkex, may you please help me with getting TGC support?). I will structure the rules based upon the rules of previous banner contests.

The Law of the Land:

1) The banner you submit needs to be 459x60

2) The theme of your banner should center around the forums (i.e. geeks and nerds)

3) Copyrighted items shall be avoided in your banner

4) As such, your banner should contain original artwork

5) It is preferable that you add a black fade out gradient to the left side of your banner, so that it blends in with the forum page header

6) PLEASE TRY TO MAKE YOUR BANNERS FUNNY (We have enough serious ones so far! However, if you can't think of anything funny, go ahead and make what your heart guides you to )

7) Please save your banner in the .jpg file format

8) Remember that the forums are a business tool of TGC's, so please ensure your banners look professional to a degree

9) Please keep this thread on topic


As with the previous banner contests, the images that are chosen to be used as banners for the TGC forum shall be chosen by moderators and forum administrators. I doubt a voting system should be involved, although it's perfectly fine to support another's banner if you wish to influence the decision of a moderator.

Image editing programs such as GIMP and Paint.NET are good for creating such banners. You may link your banner to this thread, or you may also upload it as an attachment to your post. After the contest is over (at a time TBD) and the winning submissions have been selected, I will compile all of the banners into a single zip file for sending to TGC.

Obviously, the currently existing banners should serve as a good inspiration for what you create. Listed below are all of the current banners:





























Soon, I plan to make a banner of my own and post it here.

The previous contest in 2012 was not successful by any stretch; the thread died of inactivity, and none of the images made it into banner circulation. The contest before that, however, is the source of many current banners. Let's make this contest a successful one too!

Thanks, luckily I had little else to do today, but researching for my new publications is proving fun and not so time consuming...

Jet engines sure are fascinating, aren't they? Riding a plane is really fun when you know how the engines work. Especially during takeoff; the force the engines produce is just unprecedented. And all of that comes from accelerating air backwards... That's just so cool. Okay, back on topic.

Hard to say! Right now we are up to 25 submissions, and while slow, the pace seems steady. If this thread begins to die off, and if attempts at raising it back up fail, I will probably try and get some mods in here (break the AUP!) to vote on submissions. So for now, you probably have plenty of time to make a banner.

Nice Swissolo, I like those a lot. I agree with the top two being good, and the second one being the best.

I agree. I'll still leave it up to others, probably you mods, to narrow things down.

You do raise a good point in my mind; most of the banners submitted thus far aren't really funny, but rather, they are fancy TGC logo banners. Of the 27 or so submitted, I personally find only one to be funny, and it looks like four of them have a humorous intent. So more funny ones, perhaps?

I only meant for 1 of the moon banners to be picked, I just wanted to provide options.

Yeah it turned out pretty well It's a minor detail but the outer logos seem to have a flat line on top of them. The blur was cut off I think. I didn't think it mattered but now I can't unsee it

Maybe someone can come up with something funny with this picture of Lee. I saved it as a png so it can be layered on top of other images.

Agree much! Too many people posting 8-10 near-identical versions of the same banner. Just pick the one you like the best and go with it.

Awesome, I don't mind, and I do appreciate the fix. For a second I forgot that you were a mod, and I couldn't quite figure out how you had edited my post... Haha

For picking one banner from 8-10 similar ones, I'll let the community nominate banners they prefer! In the end, it's up to the mods and other people in charge to select which banners they like.

Is it? I have no power to choose final banners. Influence, maybe, but not power

I'm going to be blunt and make of the list of the only ones I like and would be happy with as banners (even if it is most of them ):

I tend to look for obscure fonts online to use. If the font is recognizable it usually feels cheaper (unless you chose that font for a reason ex) courier new for code, comic sans because... well you know )

Anyways, I'm sorry I posted 5 similar banners! I wanted to provide some choices. Maybe the mods would prefer to keep the official TGC logo, perhaps the texture is enough, or something like that. Since the final decision wasn't up to me I wanted to provide choices! Evidently that was wrong I'll stick to one from now on Anyways, thanks for compiling all of the true entries into one post Clonkex (At least up until that point). Makes it easier to keep track of them I'll probably make a few more when I have some time.

Edit: @Mr.Handy I suppose he's referring to the beta forums. As much as I like the changes, I'll be using the original forum until the day it dies It's just what I'm most familiar with.
