Free uneven terrain pack, comes with two segments 10x10 one of which is mirrored so you can make larger terrain.
Four different textures rock, sand and two grass.
There are no collision problems with these for player or enemies.
Remember to use the page up/down keys to raise your player start and entities above the surface of the terrain.

Below is an example of how to place your terrain.

You may use these in commercial or non- commercial games.

Rolfy

This is really good news / work!

Congratulations on a genuine contribution to a problem that many people would like to have sorted out, including myself.

I think I saw a thread which talked about slicing the mesh up and dividing it up into sections and then using the FPSC segment creation tool to import into FPSC.

Therefore I take it that terrain needs to be segments and not entities in order to have correct collision for enemies / entities.

I think there was mention of being a limitation in the segment creation tool that meant it crashed once a certain size had been reached, limiting the size of the terrain sections that could be made.

Any thoughts on this or any alternative ways to make a segment rather than using the FPSC segment editor e.g. entities can be made by writing a .fpe and pointing to all the necessary files within the same folder.

Segments require a .fps which needs to point to the relevant texturebank and meshbank folders but I tried turning my valley model into a segment making the .fps file myself and it just didn't work the same as it did for an entity.

Don't really understand why segments would be limited in this way when entities are not but there we go.

Theoretically could my full scale valley model be split up using your technique in order to work properly with enemy entities do you think ?

Thanks

P.S Glad to see that you are also helping out with this topic butters. The more the merrier!

@Nomad Soul,I will post a detailed tutorial on how to create these terrains soon.I dont know that they have to be segments, but aligning the slices of your terrain by eye in the editor would be a nightmare,I found that all the parts of the mesh aligned perfectly when imported into segment maker, due to them all sharing the same pivot point.I could then just export them all as one single segment.

The .fps contains info for around 30 (you can place up to 55 of them)segment slices which would be a little difficult to write by hand, but once you have created one you could change the mesh references to suit.

Theoretically you should be able to slice up your valley model using this method.I'm not sure about the height of the terrain though, you could maybe use segments for lower terrain and entities for your mountains.

@Butter fingers, thanks for the hug man,I needed that!
I believe you have said that Maya exports as one single mesh without collision problems, would it be possible to send me one of your terrains to test?
best rolfy.

I tried this running 1.04, it gave me an error, I clicked segments, clicked on a terrain segment, then the map screen hung and it froze the program, gave some error, 703 or something, so this was a no go for me.

Fallen one, this kind of error message usually means something cant be found.
Try reinstalling the pack and check that the meshes are in the meshbank/terrain folder.
I created and tested these with v1.4 installed.

yep I put it in again and it worked, is this made from lots of segments all put together as one overall segment, or is each segment one big mesh?

Clone gaming productions,I think you will find them in the segments folder, sounds like you have a mesh missing try reinstalling.
In fact it sounds like you may have put the folders in the wrong place, check the folders in the zip.

Fallen one, they are mesh slices,I did a turorial how these were made, its around somewhere in models and media.

-.X is made using most 3D modelling packages.
-.BIN is what FPSC produces, so you don't need to worry about that.
-.TGA can be created in most image programs such as photoshop and the gimp.
-.dds can be created once a plugin is downloaded.
-.fpe can be made in notepad.
