Well, all I know and do is 2D, I know nada about 3D, but I feel the best way to handle the project I'm working on right now is in a limited 3D manner.

I have a great deal of 2D art that I simply want to extrude and bevel a bit, no real extensive work, and turn into 3D objects to import into DB Pro.

What's the simplest program to do this with? As in easy to use and able to import the art?

I've never heard of a program like this. But I use Blender, and you can load in a picture and trace it, if that helps at all.

The learning curve for any 3D package is pretty high. But you can search for tutorials on just about any 3D package out there and get a ton of hits.

If I may. I think anim8or is realy easy to use. and there are plenty of tutorials that will show you how to use it. Anim8or cant export Anim8ions. The thing is it is free. So you can use the money you save on a 3D package and spend it on a 3D anim8ion package that will export. I have never tried Milkshape but Iam leaning towards this so I can animate and save a .X format for my games.

Now if you decide to give anim8or a try I would work on the basic tutorials and then the rest.

If you have a high speed connection or dont mind waiting for a download then there are video tutorials on this website that will SHOW you how to model useing anim8or.

Hope this will help you out.

Sigh. It looks like a simple program that can take a 2D image, find the outline via it being transparent, and then extrude doesn't exist or is in another language.

Perhaps it's possible to write DB code to do it. One of the Codebase entries looks like it's grasping at that at least.
