I am using a matrix to plot data points(1 point per matrix vertex would be ideal)but..

When I construct a matrix with more than 130x130 grids(size doesn't matter) the grid is drawn upto a certain point then stops. Example below shows 2 grids on top of each other - note how the 200x200 grid stops about 1/3 the way.

Anyway to correct this? Hardware limitation? Does the same on several computers.

I'm using 4 matrixs now with 100x100 grids but it's a pain.

Thanks

What is the camera doing? Are the matrixes being cut off because parts are out of camera range? Try moving the camera.

Ending a sentence with a French word is so passé

The code I included allows you to use the mouse to fly over the matrix - left button move forward, right back,

No. I wish that was the case.

I had this problem as well on big matrices. I think there is some sort of limit on number of tiles in a matrix. Having loads of smaller matrices seems to be acceptable though.

What is maximum size then? When I get home I will find out!

Rich,

How about it? Can you shed some light on this? Is there a work around? Is this corrected in patch 5?

Is it hardware dependant? I'm writing enormous amounts of code on top of using 4 matrix and would love to use 1 matrix instead.

Thanks

I know that there is a limit on the number of vertices an object can have, so it may be the case that matrixes have the same limit and a 130x130 matrix hits this limit.

And the magic answer is .... 16384 (128*128)

Any tiles past that number are just not rendered! Pity really.

So as long as total tiles is less than or equal 16384 you are safe.

That sounds about the same as objects then. They're limited to 65536 vertices.

So with a vertice for each corner of each tile that comes to the same number.

That's a pretty low vertex limit...

Is it? Apart from matrixes, I've not heard any problems caused by it.

Anyway, I think this is a limit that may soon to be lifted.

Ian,

Care to elaborate on your insight about lifting the limit? Patch 5 maybe???

Why not use DWord instead of word for vertixes number?

I can run a matrix 2000x2000 in DBPro using native commands, I do this with a much smaller matrix and dynamic content shuffling. This not only renders faster but it allows for the matrix to be animated without huge slowdown.

See my Work in Progress page for Project NFP to download an example of a 2000x2000 animated matrix. Or for a more complete look at a massive matrix demo look at my Terrascape page.

Exeat: Ah, abuse huh? I've helped confirm what the problem seems to be, and PD has given a workaround ... what more do you want from me? Blood?
