Last year I taught a summer camp and we used DBC because it was offered free to educational institutions. I tried looking for that same academic offer and I can't find it. Am I just not looking hard enough, or did something change?

Then why would you want more?

I doubt that TGC's intentions were to issue free copies to the kids year after year. Surely they are issued to the educational establishment and reused with each new intake of students?

Because the IT department has since purged it off the computers in the classroom we used, and now I can not find the page with the free for academic use offer and the new person at the IT department can't find the same page either. So they are saying that the school has to buy the software. If there has been a change in policy, then fine. But if it is free for this use (and it was never issued to the summer came kids, just installed on one classroom of computers.) Anyway the school is a small one and I was trying to help them save money. I don't work there full time, just teach some night adult classes or summer sat classes for kids.

I hope this is well explained now.

I believe TGC dropped the offer. The page no is no longer on the site. I think too many people were taking advantage of the generosity of TGC, and taking a copy of DBC for free. It wouldn't be all that difficult for a computer-literate person to extract DBC from the computer and just take it on home with them. Don't get me wrong though, the offer may still exist, I just havn't seen it anywhere on here. Like I said, people could have been taking copies of the program without having to pay for it.

Someone once told me to shoot for the moon, and that even if I missed I would still land among the stars. I tried it, and I missed the moon, but I didn't land among the stars. I hit the freaking sun!

It's not around anymore. It was DB Classic (1.09 I think) and couldn't be patched any further. You could try making a request via the support page (link at bottom of forum pages).

Well that puts me in a spot. I set up this course because of the free academic use offer and now I look bad to the school administration because I told them that the software was free for school use but now isn't. The first class is this coming Sat and now I have to figure out a solution.

There's always the trial versions.

Unfortunately, the newer ones all time out after a month, but you're welcome to download the older trial version of DB Classic from my web site.

It's got limited objects (100 I believe) and a maximum of 10,000 lines of code, but that's easily enough to do a course (that's what I got hold of it for).

More importantly, it doesn't expire after a certain amount of time.

[Edit] Never mind - I just read in your post in the latest version download thread that your school has bought DBC.
