Hi, i got told to post this here instead, so i just copied it from my last thread.

Hey i'm new around here, i've started to code yesterday and i made some quite good progress, can anyone explain how i can move around on the floor instead of floating around in the air, also the jumping would be good to. I also wanted to know about the .x files i seem to be downloading with some of the games and projects i've downloaded, i can understand there the maps, but all i can see when i open it is a load of numbers and little boxes, is there a specific program where i can create these maps? And edit them please?

Many thanks.

X files are the format of a 3d model. They are not maps, although you could make a map with a x file.

Let's see here, just off the top of my head... This is not a complete
list of every program out there. It's a list of some of the popular programs
used for modelling and map making used by people in the DB community.

Map Editors:

3D World Studio
World (Written in DBPro)
Quark (BSP)
Hammer (BSP)
Cartography Shop

Modelling Programs:

Milkshape 3D
3D Canvas
Blender
Sketchup
Wings 3D
Anim8tor

Search the forums and the web for more information.

I use anim8tor, it's free and easy enough to use, it exports as 3ds which can be converted to x files easily.

D Ogre would that be Valve Hammer Editor? (Hammer) does that actually work with DBP? Because as curious as i was the other day, i copied a map from my steam maps folder into the folder i was creating a small game, i loaded the map but when i tryed to compile it said "Does not support 3D" or something similar, would i have to convert that .bsp into a .x first though? Which program can do that?

Conor B Thanks for the recommendation, i downloaded it and had a quick look, i might have to read up on it a bit though

Thanks guys.

Here is a good place for tutorials on anim8tor:
http://www.anim8or.com/main/index.html
And a better one:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/w.watson3/asl.html
Just look around those sites.
