A couple of queries...

Will the 3D engine perform better if I make 64 64x64 images or tile them all on to one 512x512 texture ? - yes you can get 64 on to one 512x512 before you do the math.

Secondly, would there be any point making my images for models as 256 colours instead of the 16 million. Will this improve performance or be negligable?

i'm sure the answer is yes in both cases but I'd be interested to what degree. If the difference in performance were to be negligable then I'm not sure the time to mess with the images would be worth it.

When displaying a model I find it has been rendered faster when all images are on one texture. If you meen between multiple models on the same texture - I doubt that would matter.

Not sure if working in 256 colours would help much as the screenmode is 16 bit anyway and the bus is 32 bit so more than able to deal with the data rate.
