like said, i am new to these forums. i hope to become a contributing member over the time which i am here.
i have grown up doing HTML, VB and darkBasic programming. but over the years of not doing it i have become rusty.

i have a great idea for a new game. i dont want to give out details, but it involves absolutely no shooting weapons or real AI. it has the possibility to change a genre if i can do it right.

i looked into getting FPSC, but it isnt nearly advanced enough for what i need. my questions are:

1) will DBpro be what i need to make a really advanced game?
2) what would be the best terrain editor to use to make a small 1 level area?
3) how simliar is DBpro to DB? i had a basic skelton down for some games way back when with DB, but gave it up before i finished anything. does DBpro require all code typing like DB?

i read through the stickies and it seems like there are a lot of tutorials and snippets, which makes this a lot easier, but doesnt take away my questions.

all-in-all i want to make sure i can let my imagination go and let DBpro fullfill what i want. and most of all i want to make sure it can do what i want before i spend the $$.

thanks everyone!

welcome to the forums .
1) The only limitation is your own ability and patience in learning the language.
3) They are almost identical, DBP is just better because it is updated/patched and has more commands and features, so I definitly would get it, if your willing to take the time to learn it. It's powerful yet flexible, but still takes time and persistance to learn .

Good luck and feel free to ask questions here .

You've got an old version of DX 9.0c I thick. You should update DX regularly, it may be the same version (9.0c) but each month they usually improve it.

Here a link to the newest:

Hope you've got a valid copy of windows though, if not you'll have to download it from another site (just search).

Kameron, check my RPG tutorial for a good start. It teaches you alot about programming.

Oh yeah, Welcome

Heres what I use in my games:

Dbpro for programming
Milkshape 3D For Modelling, rigging, animating
Lithunwrap for UVMapping
Photoshop for texturing, 2D art
Fruity Loops for music
3D World Studio for buildings

im sorry for the double post but i had a quick question:

i noticed that Xenocythe listed the programs used to make a game, but im wondering what i use to make an actual terrain/water/landscape?

does dbpro have some kind of editor or is there an editor that is really good to use with dbpro?

i only need landscape/sky/terrain....no other buildings or anything.

thanks again guys!

Hehe...use advanced terrain. It's fast and great with DBPro.

My famous water/landscape is actually a mouthful to explain, plus I have my secret methods

So use advanced terrain, and, say, a plain object for the water.

If you said that in thinking that violent games aren't allowed on this forum, you're quite wrong. Games can include certain amounts of violence, just check out some FPSC games! They're REALLY violent!

Good luck in learinng DBPro.
