Been awhile since I last used DB/DB pro, I thought DB Pro could support .3ds objects, but today when I went to load a basic cube, I got a unable to load object error. Do I still need to convert to .x? I remember having to do that back in DB classic...

If I do need to convert, can anyone point me to a converter program?

Thanks in advance

Are you using P4 ? Then you wont be able to use 3DS files.
Almost any 3DS to X convertor will be okay to use.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

Gwarrrrrrrrrrr so I convert this box, yes just a simple box to test it out, get it in .x format, and now its invisible when loaded into db pro. Yes I scaled it to make sure it just wasnt small, its just not there. Loads fine, with no errors, but doesnt show up. Gwarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

well ive tryed 2 dif converter programs now, each with the same result. The .x file loads into db without errors, but doesnt show up. Again, im using basic cube objects just to test. Can anyone point me to a program that they KNOW actually works? So I can rule that our at least...

I use Deep Exploration to convert file format.

Try this

set object cull objectNumber,0

I think it possible you are not seeing the box because you have it scaled such that you can only see it's invisible (reverse) faces. This command will let you see the inside of it to know for sure.

nope that wasnt it, the cube is still invisible. Im hoping it was just the crappy converter program I used. called conv3d. its a lil dos based program that seems to be from 1996. can you post a link to the program you use?

http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/dexp/index.htm

It's very powerful but registering it is very expensive. I was lucky to do it before the author 'went pro' with the project.

I only realised recently I had a free upgrade to the pro version 'Deep Exploration' because I bought the more expensive Enterprise version of the older program '3D Exploration'.

That's bye the bye though, lots of convertors out there - this one is like the big daddy of them all as far as I can tell, but i'm sure others will do the job.

well crappy crap crap crap. ive gone threw about a dozen converter programs today. some just dont work, some want me to register, and the one that does "work" (conv3ds), seems to be exporting corrupted .x files... sigh. Anyone know of a free, working, converter?

I think i may have deleted the conv3ds program already, so I sent you the link the where i got it. Give it a shot, and let me know if it works for you. I dont really need a specific .3ds file converted, I plan on making tons in the future, so at some point im going to need to be able to convert them myself.. thanks for th eoffer tho

AzureZeal: Have you considered that the camera at default is at the center of the universe (ie 0,0,0) and the box when you load it will be at 0,0,0? Therefore you wouldn't see the box because you would be looking trought the box from the back side of the polygons???

If so, then move the box or the camera, and you should be able to see it

PS: .rar files rule. zip files suck. Its a proven fact

Also, do you have DB Classic? if so then look in the tools folder. There is a program called DBConv.exe, which converts 3ds files to x files with full DB/DBPro compatability. If not, i can send it to you, cos i have both DB Classic and DBPro

figured it out. it seems giving the object a texture solved the problem. Untextured objects were, for some reason, invisible after being converted to .x fro 3ds. dont ask why...
