has anyone ever heard of this book? Can the stuff learned in it be applied to DB and can someone understand the book if all they know how to program in is DB?

Sort of. While a lot of the stuff presented is for c/c++ programmers some of it, like A.I., can be applied to DB although the examples they give probably won't be of much help since they will be in c/c++.

If you can find it in a book store I suggest giving it a quick read and see for yourself how much help it can be. If, however, you found it online, then all I can suggest are these links and the advice to check their descriptions and judge for yourself how usefull you think they will be to you.
