I have heard alot of talk about Slow Motion, and I developed a way to spring slow motion on the player during a game level. The player can't control the slow mo themselves, but you can suprise them with it. The kit is an installer, with a LARGE text file (lotsa words ) which tells you how to set it up. I can't really post a screenshot, because it's a method. What it consists of...

1) A 8k poly square, which spawns, causing slow mo, by a trigger zone.
2)Sounds. Slow Mo, and Speed Up. So when the player enters the slow mo part of the level, it does a woooooshhhh sound which sounds like a large machine shutting down. (I made these sounds myself.) And, the speed up sound is simply a higher pitch of the slow mo one, and reversed.
3)A Tutorial. It teaches you how to use this method to it's fullest extent.
4)Nue B's script. This is not neccessary for it to work, but it was made for the same general purpose, so I included it. (Plus it was so cool, I couldn't let it get buried in the forums. ) It, on the players press of f1, stops all shooting of enemies for 15 seconds. You set it as the enemies main AI.

Video can be seen on YouTube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vasADtjZTzg

Hope you all enjoy this kit. It took be awhile to get it working. It really does work. Now, all I need is a script to embed into the setup.fpi which, on the press of X, it causes the sound of slow mo to play, spawns the high poly square for 6 seconds, and plays the speed up sound when all that's done, and makes the player wait 20 seconds before they can use it again.

EDIT: I suppose the download link would be good.

You might have to copy/paste the link into your address bar for it to work.
Thanks,
AaronG

The video you have requested is not available.

If you have recently uploaded this video, you may need to wait a few minutes for the video to process.

Thats what shows up on youtube. I downloaded the pack though. I'll let you know how it goes.

Not sure if you need them but I had released some boxes that were 6k/4k/1.5k incase someone needs more to lag their system..

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=94724&b=24

Your free to use and package them with this incase you need an odd ammount to lag.

Good luck on this

Nah you didn't ask how to use 3dmax or Flstudio....So were straight....No sarcasm for you....Only people that don't get ragged on get my humor...Wonder why that is? Common sense maybe?

Edit: Funny how my names become adjective/verb though and not a noun..

er....just one BIG assumption here

you assume everyone has the same PC specs as yours? Something that would lag on your PC may not necessarily lag on someone elses. On the same note, that same thing may literally drag it to 0 fps on someone else's PC.

So basically, you can test it all you want while you design your level...but the effects shall vary from PC to PC

Nice try though.

and ofcourse, please correct me if I am wrong in assuming this is how you plan to set up the slo-mo.

Your right filya,
But, I, personally am not aiming for the game I'm working on to be for any PC, I am aiming for it to be on a good gaming pc. So, if this effect doesn't work for you, I am sorry.

Thanks for the crit,
AaronG

PS-I made this first for myself, but decided to share it. So, in reality I wasn't aiming for the end-user's experience, but only mine.
My Specs (on the cheap laptop I made this on):

-Some Intel-on board piece of crap graphics card
-111 gb disk space
- Windows Media Center OS
-256 mb Memory

So, this effect should work fine on most decent pc's.

Aaron, thanks for sharing this with us. Please don't be sorry about this dude

To be honest, I haven't even downloaded it yet. I just thought it out and thought about letting you know that what you tried here may/may not work for everyone.

This is not about this particular download. I was talking about you using this in your game. You shouldn't expect this slo-mo effect to run like it's supposed to on all PCs. And this...is the very base of game development. Very few people make game just for their own PC. They either make it to sell it, or share it among friends, or for distribution etc. Point is, a game deserves to be played by many

That is why I pointed it out to you.

yep. thanks for the info. I'll keep tweaking it and making it easier for the end-user to apply into the game, and I'll see if I can make it stable, by using Locrian's "blocks."

My script wasn't made for slow motion. It was made to give the player control over the opposing character (s). for instance, in a sci-fi game your player can be said to have special powers to freeze people in motion. The script only freezes the character for 15 seconds and then they continue to attack.

Although the script was posted for free use, you could've ask before redistributing it. At the very least, thanks for giving me credit.
