Ah, this is so annoying. I am trying to model a face but God made the human face so hard to model on 3DC. Does anyone have any tips on what to do, what to use? They would help me alot.

the internet is full of tutorials and methods regarding this process which can be very easily found using google.

each tutorial however is geared towards that particular 3d package
the process is very similar to most packages and methods but the tool names and tool types might change with each product.

First of all 3d canvas has a tutorial section which you could translate the tools to what you require.

Then try some tutorials

http://www.maya3d.dk/Tutorials/HeadModeling/HeadModeling.htm

http://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/modeling/polygon/191.html

now when modeling a head its important to have a reference, either you draw scan and put in your package or you reference some image.

Luckily the human race takes photos of all criminals including bill gates with these profile shots

Nice links Indi...

I was gonna post a seperate thread (or wasn't, one or the other) - but does anyone have a human skull model?

Any size, and detail level, I'd just really like a guideline and I think using a skull makes sense, kinda build the head model over it if you know what I mean.

I actually have this idea for custom head modeling software, again though I really need a skull to start with.

I used to have a whole skeleton in sydney when i lived in the warehouse from a hospital, apparently is was an indian boy from deli or somewhere.

the wiki has a good reference

my gf did a spate of anatomy and disection at university, the smell was shocking and buckets of legs creeped me out, however you could photograph one there fairly easily if you required the real mcoy.

I had 3d canvas a while ago. The free version is pretty useless when compared to other free apps. Go get blender I suggest that you start with a cube and just add detail as required. Best to keep edgeflow though! Which basically means your poly lines should match the shape of the face, fanning out of major features such as the mouth and eyes.

Okay, the several hundred positive, helpful posts vs. the 5 (including this one, 6) negative posts...

It's only the negative ones that matter?

I was thinking of modeling a human skeleton for reference, since we just finished studying that in human bio.
Yes/no?

Use reference images, follow tutorials, even follow non-head organic tutorials, they can be very helpful, here are some I have made that might be useful (One is unfinished due to computer errors):

This one is pretty basic for modelling, but is pretty much the essentials, I hope these can be quite useful, shows some good organic techniques that help me all of the time.
http://seppuku-arts.koetsuaboshi.net/?q=node/5

This one is my tutorial base at Ozark Games, some articles may be of interest, particularly my unfinished head modelling tutorial and my low poly hair tutorial (Without texturing)

http://www.ozarkgames.com/smf/index.php?topic=655.0

And here is one excellent video tutorial, its done in lightwave, but it applicable in most other applications, it doesn't tell you what to do, it just shows you the process of modelling at tutorial, if you use this one, you may want to use my first link of tutorials as a reference, might be handy.

This is one of Kurv Studio's free videos, but you still have to login/sign up to actually view the page. As there are two halves to the video.

There are two head modelling videos together, those are the ones you want to view.
