I wanting to get a 3d modeling program that will work in one fall swoop for fpsc and next version of fpsc. I did some searching an seen that .x exporter is very buggy and causes problems. Does anyone know if they have this fixed? Do any of you use. Can I also take the biped into gamespace and attach it to my character?

Biped or .bip, is a proprietary file extension to 3dmax. No other program is allowed to use it.

So i have to build my characters in .3ds? There is alot I am still confused on and I have tried searching. I just wish someone would write a definitve guide for the entire process for creating a model.

how to create the model -- Tutorial and what software to use
How to texture the model -- (I look at those textures and I don't understand
How to fully rig with the biped.
convert to .x and then the entire process of that to getting it to fpsc.

I would pay for such a manual.

I know there are posts that cover alot of this, but nothing defintive.

I know the basics of maya and I am learning milkshape

If you want to animate your models using GS; then just get milkshape for it aswell. Then you can export as .MS3D. Then import it; add the milkshape skeleton and export as .X. To do this you will need milkshape 1.7 or 1.8. The 1.6 version that comes with gamespace won't do.

Good luck with whatever you got planned

Writing a tut like that, would be a huge undertaking. And then your only catering to one modeling application and one texturing application. Soon as someone took the days involved in documenting the whole process, someone would complain that it centered around software that they didn't have.

Around here your expected to learn your software on it's own forum. This forum is only for items in FPSC or questions that relate to the final stages from getting it from the modeling application in to FPSC.

So sorry that I had to sleep and couldn't approve your posts the second you posted.
To my knowledge nobody has had to wait 2 hours to have their posts approved.Mods are pretty good about approving posts.
Some posts do not get approved because they fail to fall within the guidelines of the AUP.

Heh,
Well I wasn't trying to be a smartbutt with anything I said up there. I thought I said it just kinda matter-a-factly(OK thats not a word).

I said that more from my own experiance. There have been times I've got tired of the questions here and said "This next model I writing a whole tutorial for it". I then find myself saying after taking screen shots of every step and writing like 3 pages and barely out of the beginning stages "No ones going to appreciate this...there just going to complain....and this is making me take way to long on this model....screw it"

I think I've done that like 3 times. It's just that people aren't that appreciative. Nothing you can do about it. So it makes actually doing that a chore instead of an accomplishment for helping others..
