just thought i'd let you know, couldn't figure out why it was so crappy, so for fun I set mode to 800x600 and it's actually reaching my sync rate. wow! 40 whole FPS! goody, now time for 1900x1200!! i ought to be smokin at 120 FPS!

so incase you're having FPS problems, try increasing your resolution... or wait, does DBPro default at 32 bit depth? hmm

If you are in windowed fullscreen mode, it may well work better in 800x600 than 640x480 if thats your actual windows desktop resolution. In full screen exclusive mode the lower the res, the better the performance.

Whilst I always thought that DBPro would be set to 16bit color as default, it seems it may be 32bit, as some people running some simple example programs in default res complain of "your card does not support 32bit color" style errors.

On almost every graphics card, lower color resolution equals faster performance. Only rarely have I found cards thst prefer higher modes.

If you use windowed mode than it is better to set the same screen size as currently. Because your program willn't waste time for "stretching" your screen.

Actually, 32-bit mode should always be faster than 16-bit, I know that's not the case, it's card dependent. Theoretically, using 24-bit colour depth means each colour value is seperate and much quicker to manage than using bit-planes - except when copying video memory, which is probably the problem.

I think different display modes work faster/slower on different cards too - what we really need is a big benchmark test that measures the speed in each display mode for different setups and cards.

I did that for someone on RGT a while back - it basically switched modes at the resolution/depth you specified, and selected the fastest one.
