That is good news That a tough line being taken on piracey. Hope it goes for using high end software and not showing any proof of ownership and still trying to sell stuff even after being asked and ignoring. NOT just to indy stuff.

That's a bit more difficult to prove, FIK (unless someone comes right out and admits to it....don't laugh, it's happened here). TGC was able to bounce his claims off of their records as proof. Unless one of us wants to go to the trouble of contacting each and every company, and ask them to investigate, I don't see much coming from that.

However, if someone gives out a link to pirated material openly (or has it listed in their signature, like the late "Shadow7" did); that is considered promotion of pirated material, and will result in actions being taken.

Whether or not you're making money off of pirated software makes no difference. If you just want to try the software, download the demo. Many programs (such as Maya, XSI and Lightwave) have learning editions that never expire, aside from their regular demos. Additionally, there are many free applications which can be used to get the basics down first.

Everybody makes mistakes in life; if you are banned from here for pirating (or any other reason), learn from it and move on. It's not the end of the world. Some of the Indi developers here have families to support, and every cent counts. It takes more time out of their day to deal with these pirate issues, and gives them less time for development. Eventually some of them may not bother to create media/apps. at all; and the community as a whole loses.

So, if you have a buddy that thinks loading up his hard drive with "ill-gotten" applications/media, is the thing to do...you may want to "reallocate" your associations elsewhere.

Until the laws in place get tougher (and certain countries start cooperating), and enforcement begins to take place in a more consistent manner; pirates will always be around, doing what they do.

Seems to be simple to me if someone says they use max, maya etc they should be asked to prove thay have a legal copy.

Also looks like you interperated my post as if i was interested in pirate stuff you coudn't be more wrong!!
I am totaly against all forms that goes right down to using pics googled off net to texture models. Only grey area i am unsure about is making models of things that exist, like a gun as surley that is also interllectual property of the company that make the gun. So without going and getting permission off all gun manufactures you couldn't have real life type guns in games? Which would make most games imposible.Know This is the case with cars.

What I am Really annoyed about about all this Anti Piracy stuff going on at the moment is the seeming hypocricay that it is ok to ignore people that say thay use Max and obviously do not have the ability to model to have spent 3000 odd on. And still be vocal against some other forms as it nearer to home.

Lets Take the example of Higggins who was a while back very vocal to anyone saying they used max etc until he was asked to prove the version he uses was legal then went very quiet and now back trying to sell stuff made with his copy of max Herehttp://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=101235&b=3

Can't find the thread where he was asked to prove his copy legal and his reply of 'parents bought it for him' then ignoring has this been deleted?
Would love Higgins to prove me wrong as it good that someone trys to stop people who use pirate copys although he could do it nicer sometimes but the way thread....

Please show me the section in my post that eludes to you pirating anything.

So, assuming each individual has purchased their copy of application "X", you now want everyone to show what exactly? How would someone go about alleviating your concern without showing personal information?

If we're going to go that route, we may as well start up an entire section dedicated to listing everyone's applications they use coupled with the proof you require for each one.

Let me know how we go about proving that they have a pirated copy, rather than going by a "gut feeling"; and we may be able to do something, without dedicating our entire life to tracking these people down.

I didn't see TGC coming to bat for me, or any other company for that reason.

If Higgins want s to come on and show "proof" of his Max License, that's up to him; just as it's up to any potential customer to buy something from him.

But you've got to be careful when throwing around accusations, as occassionally you may be incorrect. So, I disagree with your assertion that it is "simple".

Yeah I have to disagree here with fik's reasoning. At this time it's best to refuse to answer any question regarding some applications and direct them to that applications forum. That's about the best you can do.

I know from experience on this forum, when a question is asked about Max, a simple reference to the .max file and tutorial that would answer their questions ends the conversation. Apparently for download size, these files are rarely if ever packaged with torrent applications.

I myself at this time can't prove where I bought FPSC(thought I do have a boxed version and could take a picture holding it). For the life of me, I can't remember what email and what credit card I used to purchase it. I do on the other hand know what account DPB and some packs were purchased, and needless to say nothing points to this Locrian account or any of the emails I use used for this account.

So should I be expected to show proof of even owning FPSC? Well of course not, though it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the forums set up like others where a reg key or something is needed to access the forums like other applications have. But this in no way means it in TGC's interest or even right to police everything.

I am surprised that FPSC doesn't have online registration like DBP has.
But it does require a serial number (it comes in the box or if you bought it from TGC they also send you the info) and all of the model packs require your serial number to install them.
I am betting that for FPSC x10 they probably will have some kind of online registration type thing.
Not only should you direct any questions about an app to the proper individual or site for support for piracy reasons it's also a good idea because these questions should go to their support forums and they usually don't belong here.
TGC has all of the information on what TGC products I have bought but I would hate to have to show a reciept for everything I have ever purchased...I am one disorganized person.
But in the case of something like Max...I mean, come on...how many people that are in the age group that this forum caters to (kids and teens...only a few of us are old...lol) are going to come up with that kind of cash?
Heck,I'll be 40 in October and I can't afford Max.I asked my mom to buy it for me for Christmas last year and then told her how much it was...she's still laughing.
It is sad to see this kind of thing happening when we are supposed to be working together as a community to make games.
When people start pirating free stuff they've reached a whole new low.
But after you have been around a while you can gedt a good idea of who you can and can't deal with.
And if somebody puts out elementary school looking stuff one day and the next he's pumping Piccasso you have a good idea of what is going on there as well.
As far as the competition goes I feel bad that this happened to you.
I do wish you luck with your competition.

Yeah I never back out on a deal. And it's not a custom bibed, I'll be using the stock FPSC biped and making a custom character of the winners design.
