Yeah, its just a code snippet. This board is for people to post useful and interesting code snippets that might help other users, demonstrate something cool, or show off your programming skills. Its not for people to post random pieces of code that a newcomer could figure out within 5 minutes of exploring dark basic.

There's nothing useless about it, a newcomer might want to see if there's a way to get the name of the video card. If they use search, they'll find this thread and problem solved.

By reading this you have given me brief control of your mind.

That's what the help files are for - really this is spam, it's not like your showing us something useful, in fact the help file for that command is probably more helpful.

If you expanded it into to little resolution checker and changer function, then it would have some use - like a function that gives you a list of modes and tells you your card, and let's you set the resolution. That would be something handy that can be pasted into a project and save someone's time for them. Right now you might as well just copy and paste the help file contents here. There's more commands regarding hardware specifics, like TNL, shader version, alphablending and so forth.

Johnathon, by the term "useful" code, everyone means something more than just a single command print a value to the screen. Your "snippet" could be looked up in the help file very easily.

Quote: "
CURRENT GRAPHICS CARD$

This command will return the name of the current display card being used by the system.

Syntax

Return String=CURRENT GRAPHICS CARD$()
"

But then again, everyone here is assuming beginners actually open the manual.

No instruction book comes with the hard copy either, the help files are the manual.

By reading this sentence you have given me brief control of your mind.

I got an instruction book with my boxed copy
All the same it's snippets like this that leave me wondering how some people manage to turn their PC's on in the first place.

Cyberspace was becoming overcrowded and slummy so I decided to move. These nice chaps gave me a lift.
