I have been having a problem compiling and need help. DB Pro works fine most of the time. But once in a while, it asks me to insert the DB disk to verify my compiler. This in itself is a big problem. I am writing a program to run DVDs and I have to have a DVD disk in my DVD/DC rom player to test my program. When I remove the DVD to insert the DB CD, I have to wait for the the automatic upload and all that crap. Then, when I switch back to the DVD, I have to wait again for the same stuff. As a newbee, I constantly test my program. This means I go through this problem every few minutes.
What is even worse, is that wvery so many times I have this problem, even with the DB CD the program does not perform. Then, not even re-starting the computer works. The only thing that works is to perform a restore. In doing this, I have lost programs. Thank goodness I email myself the new stuff I hasve written since the last restore point. But it is terrible to have to go through this.
I also use other programming software, such as Blitz Basic and have never had this problemm with it. I preffer DB. So, I want to use DB. But I really need help with this situation. I have uninstalled many programs to avoid conflicts. I don't know what else to do.

HELP!

well i suppose it wont hurt to know (if ya didnt already) that if ya hold down the SHIFT key after inserting a disc in the drive it prevents it from auto running whatever setup program is on it or any app that will run after certain cd's are put in (like media player for audio cd's), but its strange that ya have to put in your db pro cd all the time, i thought that was only supposed to happen every 100 compilations....

Do you have Patch 4 ?
Does the autostart crash your computer ? If so, I think you've got some corrupt system files.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

It doesn't really crash. The program becomes unresponsive. It gets ficed with the windows task manager. If there are corrupt system files, how do I fix them. I have run register fixer, disk repair, register defragmenter. Will any of those fix the problem?

If you got corrupt files, you generally need to re-install Windows, unless you want to muck around with the Administrator Console (if you've got XP).

I have Windows XP. The new computers do not come with a Windows Disk. It is stored in a partition. Using restore to a past point in which the system works properly is the supposed appropriate solution. I realized that the reason for my computer to seem to freeze when I installed the DB disk was that somehow, the CD rom driver had been erased. So, the computer could not find the CD rom. I have looked for viruses and the computer seems to be virus free. Does any body know how this could happen?

Thanks, I did upgrade on Twesday. I am now on a restore point from Monday. Does it mean that if I update again, the CD rom will disappear again? If so, should I save the driver and try to reinstall it after the upgrade? The upgrade was an automatic upgrade. So, I guess, whenever I do the next upgrade, the same thing can happen.

Its certainly possible - you never know...
The worst one I've had (happened twice with 'critical updates') is the AGP port being knocked out. Sometimes disabiling the device and re-installing it works, but usually the only way around is to uninstall the update.

I restored my CD rom. It works fine. I even watched a DVD using my own DVD player, made with DB pro. So, I am now writing an additional feature to make it possible to change the playing speed. And what happens? I get the instruction to insert the DB pro CD to verify the compiler. I insert it. The program keeps failing to verify the compiler. So, I can't compile any more. Why is my DB pro unable to verify the compiler? Could it be that my DB disk is damaged? what can I do?

The CD could be damaged, or more likely your DVD drive cant cope with SafeDisk 2 CD's...
