Off the top of my head, the most common cause of that problem is when the geometry files (.x) and the texture files (images) get seperated or have incorrect paths. Most .X files are plain text and you can open them up with programs like Notepad. Search for quotation marks and check out the image file paths. If they're not what you need, you can edit them or move the images to where they are expected to be. Remember, relative paths are better than absolute path names. My preference is for no paths and the model and image data stay together.
