how do I re-texture something?

I need to know because I wanna re-texture the mossberg weapon
I know I need something like Paint or Dogwaffle, but how to re-texture the actual texture is the question.

PS: I hope you don't need DB pro to do it. I have DB Classic

Get the program (i think infan view is easiest) and re-save it as something easy to edit it like JPEG, PNG, or GIF then edit it with MS paint then just re-save it like to DDS or TIF

Okay ill throw in my 2 cents...

Hope you dont mind I decided to take the time to write all this up I hope this will help you with your adventures with FPSC

First off you should get to know your FPSC Directory

C:/ Program Files/The Game Creators/FPS Creator

Most of your textures but not all of them are usually located in the texture bank directory

C:/ Program Files/The Game Creators/FPS Creator/Files/texturebank

Footnote:
In your segment and entitybank are files called .fpe and .fps these are script files for your models you can open these files with your notepad and in these script files you can see what directory your texture files are setting in.

Okay you found your file now what do you do.

Well here is where you need an image editor

Suggested image editors are

My top pick is Corel Paintshop Pro (Better known as Jasc)
http://www.corel.com
My next top pick is Adobe Photoshop CS (Expensive to most people)
http://www.adobe.com
A good image editor Gimp (Free and has a DDS plugin)
http://www.gimp.org

For me I make things easy on me I like to use this program called DDS Converter 2 this allows me to change the image format to a format thats easier for me to edit. Best of all this program is free

You can find this file here
http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/DDS_Converter;29412

Okay got your image editor and converter now you take your dds file convert it over to say a jpg format use your image editor to make your changes (Sorry can't take the time to tutorial the image editors here) save your file now use your converter to change it back to dds format then swap it from the original file (be sure you back up the original incase you want to change it back) then run your game and see your changes

Thanks. that helped.

here's a hud icon look at my mossberg modification

What I've done is that I put a cap on the muzzle to make it look like a toy gun.

A screenshot will come as soon as I test it out

hehe sounds pretty funny

"I warn you, i can throw this thing really hard!"

I personaly think that re-texture weapons is a great way to make your game more, well, lets say uniqe (and even more if you make the models yourself).

take these glocks...er...I mean AT 9mm's for example.

Gamers-Gear the only gear you need!

well I got some pretty good ideas on how to make the weaponry into custom-looking heat-packers.

here's my list of weapons I'm gonna re-texture.

mossberg (finished)

colt 45

MP40

assault rifle (the sci-fi one)

and here's how I plan to re-texture them:

mossberg: add a toy gun look and a multi-color stripe

colt 45: add an eagle drawing on the grip

MP40: add rust and scrape marks

assault rifle: make the body blue (or white. I haven't decided)

here's a screenshot.

okay. I made a mistake on it. I can't see what I'm editing while doing the textures. that's why the under-pipe is colored

You Should Get Paint.NET it's like photoshop, but free and on the websites forum there is plugin's section where someone made support for DDS so it helps a lot!

Try This

- Download it
- Get a blank Disk
- Cut and paste the file to the disk
- Begin Writing it to the disk

Tell your dad you got a free copy from a friend or something

Gee,Wally...that's a really good idea.
Tell him to disobey his parents...
Two things...
1. How stupid do you think his parents are? They were kids and probably are already wise to this.If he gets caught do you think they will care somebody on the internet told him to do this?
They will tan his hide not yours.
Bad,bad advice...
2. If he got it on a disc wouldn't he have to go somewhere and buy it/get it sent to him?
"Hey,Mom...Dad,
We already had this disc but...shazam!
Now it has all new content on it...I swear..."
Think about the advice you give people before you post.

@Zavix,
Do what your parents tell you to.
When you get out on your own you can do what you want.
Until then listen to your folks. They are trying to do what's best for you.

what you could do is put a blank disc in, download it directly to the disc, not actually to the comp, and then put it on the comp lol, technically you arent disobeying him, because you arent downloading it from the net to your comp, you are downloading it to disc, then uploading it to your comp from disc, which he said was ok

cherd:
I don't think that's gonna work. most of my blank discs are gone due to my father's bad habit of downloading movies off of limewire.

FredP:
I will listen to my folks. I almost got banned from the internet for downloading something that bugged the computer. my father said if the com has to be taken to the shop for fixing, he'll ban me from internet. meaning no more AH, TGC forums, or even youtube for that matter.

I'm SOOO lucky to be lucky. lol

@zavix

Yeah I would take FredP's advice. I am a parent who has a child and even on my son's PC he is not allowed to download anything without my prior approval, Not aloud to chat in instant messages or chatrooms without my approval and me standing over him and if my son was to break my rules he looses his PC for months.

I know that sounds firm but from a parents point of view it is our responsibility to make sure you are not exposed to anything that we as adults deem to young for children and also since there are internet threats out there not just to people but to the PC it still comes down to the adult being responsible for the PC condition and as a parent sitting for hours cleaning a pc when I never infected it only bring more tension to the table when I sti down to talk to my son.

So best advice. Listen to your parents, The guys in the forums do not live in your shoes so remember that also and dont let someone you don't know tell you what to do. Always when it doubt talk to your parents they do know best even when at times you may not think so. Plus you may be suprised if you asked your dad to download someting and show him what it is first he may be more opted to allow that considering you are coming to him first to ask instead of going ahead and doing something they are not aware of and then dealing with the aftermath of it later.

Hope the best for you.

Follow Fred's advice. Stick with what you have, looks like your already starting to get creative with it.

I am a manifestation of your subconscious.
