I want to make my own objects for FPSC,

I have an old copy of max, 3.1, it doesn't support directx file format, do more modern versions of max support directx for import and export? Their site doesn't say what formats it supports. But If it does there is a 30 day trail, so I can get my models done in 30 days.
I suppose if there was a batch convert directx to some other format I could just import the FPSC stock models into a new format, Panda3d do a plug in for max for export with I think does directx, its just getting the files in to max.

what are you using to open your directx files?

Also I have some points -

I notice segments are made with walls and floor, wouldn't it be better to just have them as walls, that way you could add whatever floor you wanted?

What size is the grid at, do segments have to conform to a size or grid snapping, can it be changed?, I notice the ceilings are quite low in the game, can we have them higher, by that I don't mean twice as high I mean, I mean say 33% higher, same goes for corridors, they could do with being 33% wider, perhaps one should just shrink the model, I was looking in program magic fps, the room looked scaled right, is that the same size as the other segments in FPSC, it could be that it looks right, but the rooms in the game, not ones with 2 layers or 3, the regular rooms, they are too low, put a window in and its too low, the scale if off on this, can something be done about this, can I change the grid and make rooms to my scale, also how big are the sections, how big do we make them.

One more, how does this compare with Torque, I have heard that there can be problems with speed, Torque is BSP, what is used in FPSC, how efficient is it compared to Torques BSP?

@fallen one, second post:
You can press F to just build the floor of the selected segment, and M to build the walls.
I think you can build just the ceiling aswell... but i haven't tried this.

@fallen one, first post:
There is one complex method you could do.
Download the free modelling program anim8or.
Import the 3ds max model.
Search google for "anim8or .x" and click on the first link, it directs you to a script to export to .x
This only exports the model, not the animations, but it might work.

@fallen one, third post:
Can't help you there, sorry.

hope that helped

That helps a lot, thanks,
what size are sections in FPS creator, I loaded one into Delgine, its scale is odd, doesn't seem to conform with the grid snaps at all, it looks like its got a custom scale that fits the editor of FPS, can the grid size be changed in FPS creator? Say make the squares half as big or larger, also I see a problem in that the ceilings are too low as well.
The segments can they can be altered to say make this wall higher?

Max needs the panda plugin to deal with .x

Found this-
A segment in FPSC equals 100 pixels or 8'4" squared. 8 times 12 is 96 plus the 4 for 100 inches. So 1 inch in real life equals 1 pixel in 3d world space.

That panda plug in only exports, not import

I think I'm the one that posted that information about sizes. There are 3ds to x converters listed on this forum. I know because I posted one. There is no x import plug for any version of max.

@fallen one, last post:
You can go into the showcase forum and...... one sec, i'll just get you the link. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=96722&b=25
this is a horror game, and in my opinion very good.
Also, just browsing the showcase forum can find you good screenshots/downloads.

Another useful link:http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=93081&b=21
A very large guide to FPS Creator, although i would advise reading the manual first, then downloading this, and you will know pretty much all you'll ever need 2.

Hope this helped
