Making a 2D space shooter and for some reason when I import more than about 3 objects (from DOGA L3) the game crashes and I get the "an error has occurred and this program has to close, please tell microsoft". Its weird - I thought it might have something to do with the different textures I used in DOGA L3 (ship modelling program) but I changed all textures to be the same and it still crashes. It can handle loading 2 objects but the 3rd one (or maybe its the 4th) causes a crash every time? Any ideas what might be going on? (All my ships are roughly about 500 polygons in case this helps). All objects are .x files.

Sorry just remembered another problem which relates to importing a "100 sided" sphere from wings (which is much more spherical looking than the DBC's make sphere command). It imports fine (as a nicely rounded large grey sphere) but when I try texturing it, it remains grey and not the nice planet texture I want to use. (note the texture is fine as it works on DBC's "make sphere 1,300". Any ideas?

I've just tried importing the objects (ships) on a high end computer and still no luck. Its weird because its not down to any of the objects themselves (as I can import them all and see them so long as >3 arent imported at once). Any ideas? I'm praying like mad that I havent wasted my time designing the 40 or so ship models in DOGA L3.

@hangar18

Hello,

I'm not familiar with that product but the symptoms you describe might be related to the direct x files themselves. Inside a Direct X file are a series of templates or code blocks that tell direct x how to construct your object. DBC uses Direct X 7 I think and today's standard is at least direct x 9. There could be templates that DOGA puts in or leaves out of the Direct X file it creates that may not be 100% compatible with DBC and how it uses Direct X 7.

Try downloading the free version of Deled and import your DOGA x files into there and then export them back out. DBC is compatible with the Direct X files that Deled creates. If these converted files load into DBC, that will at least give you a clue it's probably DOGA's export that is the problem.

If that doesn't help, if you want to attach a copy of one of your models to a post, if I have time, I could take a look at it and maybe tell you what the problem with the X file is.

Enjoy your day.
