Hey guys,
I havent really modelled very much but i thought i start a thread with my creations.
I'm not that good yet. I use 3DS max v 9.0. Any tutorial links to help me on UV mapping would be greatly appriciated.

Please don't flame me. I remember seeing posts way back when people said that there should be more new modellers i think it was reality forgotten?

Anyways,
Heres one of my models, I will texture later tonight or soon.

Cheers,

PS: When i use unwrap UV in 3ds max there is a seem along the main part of the pen when i only want to unwrap the front of the pen. It's like there is a pernamently a seem there. Can anyone help me?

Possibly I've said alot in the past....

The pen looks good, I'm not touching the poly count as you know what I am going to say. This model looks pretty detailed so it only makes sense to assume that it is a ballpoint pen, I think you should add the ball to the point. I really want to see this textured.

Cheers,
Dave

Looks cool, but you should do some smoothing group fixes. On the back and the front of the pen. The polies you've got there have 'hard edges'.. you see it ? I'll try to find a tutorial about that too for ya.. moment.

Sure, If you want me to unwrap it for you, I can.

No one should flame you, if they do, I'll beat them with a stick, or your pen, depends, do you think you can handle the police asking questions about your pen being used as a murder weapon?

Looks good and low poly, I can see it being used in a game, but not as a background item, (they're usually super low poly) As already said, you might want smoothing groups elsewhere on the model, other than the center piece.

Hey guys, working on texturing.
Added smoothing groups.
And added ball to the tip.

Note the inky ball in #2.

Cheers,
-Tom

It's 169 polies. I just wanted to work on my skillz not to be used in a game as background object, etc.

I also made all of the textures in photoshop myself. These are my first textures i made to be used on a model

in max, if i have 2 objects how do i merge them to become one so i can edit them at the same time. For example. i have box_1, box_2, and box_3 i want box_2 and box_3 to just be one object (box_2) so then i would only have two objects unstead of 3. How would i go about merging the two objects.

PS: thanks for your support tyler

In the modifier menu there is a button called attach. However the way your model is looking you may wish to use a bolean join that can be found in the compound objects. I would personally use bolean union on that as it would help to reduce the polycount on the final model.

And its done,
Now for the hard part, the texture. If anyone could give me a link to a good unwrapping program, the one in 3ds max is using random seems and is pissin me off. Or maybe a tutorial for texturing.

Here are the finishing pics:

Both models look very good. I think the motorcycle could use with a little less smoothing in some parts though.

Can somone please make / find a tutorial for UV mapping using 3DS max or an external program?

thanks, this is the pre texture just trying to get smoothing and shape right, i apply this texture to see if shine / glow is equal and isnt choppy.

This is by no meens the final texture

I used this tutorial(http://www.psionic.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/tutorials/lowpoly/zuvm.html) to learn to uv-map. It is for milkshape and lithunwrap but the uv-mapping is done in lithunwrap so it shouldn't matter if you dont have milkshape. If you search the forums there should still be a link to the free version of lithunwrap if you want to use this.
