Whenever I save as .tga unless the texture is meant to be the whole 512 by 512 the excess space is always white or black. Does anyone know how to get the non used parts of the texture the transparent parts to actually be transparent? any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Use Paint.NET it's free and easier then just highlight what you want and press "Delete"

Well Just HighLight What you want, say your making a blood entity and you want to add black around it highlight the part that is not the blood and then press "Delete" and it should turn to grey and white checkers that will be transparency and if your making a .DDS format go here-

Or even better, you can skip the price of photoshop, and the simple few features of Paint.net, and get GIMP! which is free, a little less features then photoshop, and alot less of a price. Well, unless you are bill gates, and free is expensive.

In gimp, it has the color to alpha thing, but you can use opacity with it and things like that to pull some really cool texture stuff.

thanks guys. I downloaded the gimp and it should work better thanks for the help. weirdness with the aplha channel still seems to come out black.
it seems that photoshop unless saving as a .PSD save transparent as white. but fpsc doesnt support .PSD so the dilemma is finding a program that can convert a .PSD to a .tga or dds and keep the transparency.
