The current engine that I use to write my games is based on DirectX 6, which means that most people are already going to have a high enough version of directX installed on their machine to play my games. I'm considering switching to DarkBASIC Pro but if it uses a very current version of DirectX that might create some technical problems for the the target demographic that my games are aimed at. For some people who aren't very computer savvy having to upgrade their version of DirectX could pose an insurmountable hurdle.

Thanks,

It requires 8.1 at the moment.

Have you looked at DB Classic? That only requires DX7, but might be more suitable for your 'customers'.

Hmmm... DX7. That would definetly be the version for me then. Thanks!

Are you sure, you could automate the install completely, just create an autorun.inf file to run DirectX setup. Installing DX9 is just as easy as DX7 or 8.

Very few games nowadays will run on anything less than DX 7. Anything in the last two years certainly needs DX 8.
