Does anyone know if there are any free polygon reducers? I know there are quite a few commercial ones including action 3D but they are kinda to much for me. Even A3D which is $50. I have Lightwave3D so if you know any free poly reducers they can either be standalone software or
a plugin for LW3D.

Here.

Do not use the script insanely. You must also do some manual work. You can avoid this by making a 'low poly model first. Adding polygons use to be easier than removing.

Have fun.

The best free poly reducer would be the modeller them selves

You get bad results will auto poly reducers. Its better to reduce by hand.

Milkshape also has one that is ok by me =P If you have it, go to Tools -> DirectX Mesh Tools and use the slider to reduce pollies.

Cheers

I can proudly say that I've never coded a game of merit! Working on it though =P

this is how i would do it but game master 07 asked for a free program. i also advise you lern to do it manualy, or lern to modal in lo poly without the need to go back and cleen up, this is rilly a huge waste of time.

vert by vert is the only modaling tecneque ive used that dosant end up with tuns of dead verts.

poly reducers just colapse edges over the entire modal untill the modal = the polycount set. so if there is a airia you want to be higher poly then you haft to do it manualy.

Yeah it will but I think you'll find that it is easier to use fewer polys in the first place (if possible) than to make a model and try to reduce them.
Poly reduction is something I would use as a last resort.

Oh absolutely =) It's definitely better to build up and use as few pollies as possible =P But I have had situation where I have found cool 3d models that are too high poly and I was too lazy to do it manually ^^ Click -> Click -> Sliiiiiiide and it's of o.k. enough quality to use em =)

Cheers

Thanks evreyone but I have found a couple of poly reducer plugins for Lightwave. Thats the program I use to model.

The only problem with having the modellers themselves as reducers is the work involved. You have to zoom in and look extremely carefully at
evrey vertex that you can do with out and delete it. With a poly reducer it makes it 10 times easier and less work. Also if you combine
the modeller with a plugin or standalone program that works good to.
