...that a combination of Gamespace, GILES, and T.ED can not? I was wondering because, I would rather spend £45 on T.ED and GILES as opposed to 60 on 3DWS. For one thing, GILES is a much better lightmapper, but I don't particularly want to buy it aswell as 3DWS, should I choose it. Please share your experiences and opinions. Thanks!

3DWS supports easy texturing ( u dont need to uvw unwrap the whole scene.. ) it supports entities ( GREAT FEATURE ) and it supports easy terrains and lightmapping etc.. Its worth of the price!

Well there is probably a lot it can do, but if you can make your maps and texture them effeciently in GameSpace then I wouldn't buy 3DWS, I now just use Torque Constructor now, with its lwo export. (look for Moondog's map making tutorial, that was made in GameSpace)

Thanks everyone.
@The full metal coder roxas(long name): Could you possibly give more information about these entities? The other features you mentioned are all possible with the software I listed.
@Seppuku Arts: Good advice, thanks. You have torque then, or is the constructor available seperately? I remeber seeing moondogs tutorial, its what made me think that I could get away without 3DWS or a similar level editor.
@everyone: I'm still interested in any other opinions or alternate software combinations! Dont hesitate to share any that you have.

I have 3dws its a very easy to use for the money. Its a good level builder but you need something else to make models/textures. It exports to dbo and x formats. Some of the textures it comes with are not supported by darkbasic. Making your own jpegs or bmp files aren't hard though.

There is a version 6 in the works however there is going to be an incresed cost for version 6 upgrading from version 5 is going to be fairly cheap. No idea how much.

http://forum.leadwerks.com/viewtopic.php?id=831 for version 6 info.

I'll add something later on.

I think Torque Constructor is freely availible to all and not just Torque users, it's good for making levels, its a great integration for that engine, but it does have .lwo export, which may be your solution, give it a go and import into dbp before you decide.

@sprite: Version 6 looks very interesting. It seems that the creator is moving away from people like us, and towards massive companies, so the price will be much steeper. As for its features, there isnt really anything that tempts me away from the gamespace-t.ed-giles combo. Infact, the features hes listed are not worthy of a full version change in my opinion. Draggable viewport windows? How daring and original! Despite my sarcastic negativity however, I will look into the possibiltiy of getting 3DWS more now, as it looks like they are going to add a radiosity lightmapper to the program, which might sway me. All that remains to be seen is exactly how much on top of the v5's price it will be as an upgrade. Thanks for your help!
@seppuku arts: Thats good to hear! I shall definately try at it out and potentially add it to my combination of 3DWS alternatives!

Entities are kinda hard to explain.. But i try explain quickly.. If u know popular Valve map editors like WorldCraft or Valve hammer editor u learn these easily then.. Lets say u want to put smoke entity in ur map..

1. Make entity
2. Put its class name to Smoke
3. Put some values like speed and etc
4. In dbpro u could make ur map loading engine so dbpro would then automatically place those smokes and put the values to them what u setted in 3dws..

U can also set player starts with these entities and like everything.. U can also assing entities to objects.. Like u want water.. THen u make box and rename it class name to water and then handle the class in dbpro.. Download inca pro u get source code with it.. It uses entity system and its good!!

I have downloaded the inco pro demo before, and its is good but there is no way of seeing whether the objects are entites, or just part of the level, as you cannot intereract with them. This entity system does sound useful however... but it isnt a must have feature for me, so I shall see. Also, I would imagine that there are no specific commands in darkbasic pro for them, so it would require complicated level loading code? Thanks for your information!

U can do anything with entity system.. Inca pro just doesnt use it much u just give class or soemthing and then u can handle the object in dbpro.. So 3dws/Entity system isnt giving any limitations.. only dbpro is giving and ur intelligent..
