Why should i chose DGDK insted of useing C++ (DirectX / OpenGL)?

Whats the main difference between DirectX and OpenGL?

Thanks

Your preference, I think DGDK is easier to use first time around.

DirectX is for Microsoft derived computers, where OpenGL can run on about anything.

...I think, I might be wrong.

Actually, DGDK is an Engine, while OpenGL and DirectX are just APIs. DGDK is built on DirectX.

The other difference, not only about the platforms, is that OpenGL is just a Graphics API, while DirectX is a collection of different "areas": Graphics, Sound, Input, etc.

Oki, but i ordered a book http://www.amazon.com/Accelerated-C%2B%2B-Practical-Programming-Example/dp/020170353X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-6578990-2264167?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177430941&sr=1-1 about c++... Is it any point in reading it if im going with DGDK?

Does it exist books about DGDK?

Unfortunately, no books on DGDK that I know...

About OpenGL: NO! You can use OpenGL from a great variety of languages: C++ / C# / Delphi / Etc. Check this site, it has a huge codebase for a lot of languages (more than 15): nehe.gamedev.net

You can even use Java with OpenGL. For audio, there's OpenAL and networking I'm not sure about. DirectX is a complete package, graphics, sound, networking, various input. Personally, I've always favored OGL over D3D.

Basically if you understand DarkBASIC Professional, you won't have any major problems with DarkGDK's commands. They are basically the same.

Reason I changed....

Whenever I wrote a game in OpenGL, there'd always be about 10% of people who get back to me with "It doesn't work on my PC" and "I'm getting wierd graphical glitches..."

Never happened with Dark GDK yet
