Thanks.

In easy way is to just do this:

-layer->transparency->colour to alpha...
-then just click ok and it should come out with quite a nice effect.

Not bad water for your first attempt

Thankyou very much.

I used offset /y /x or whatever it is and then blurred the edges.

It didn't work as well as I hoped but it looks a whole lot better than it did.

I'm just trying it with colour to alpha now.

I'll edit this post with the screeny.

E.D.

EDIT: Hmmmmm, that's not quite what I imagined... .
What I want is so that you can see through the water, but it's still visible. (Like the windows)

the image looks like torn fabric floting. you rilly need to create a alpha canal in your image then save as a png or outher format that sports a alpha chanal.

hessies look at the top image for what it used to look like.

I can't work out how to have an image semi-transparent.

open a new image with the same dimentions as the texture and set the bacground to transparant (under advanced options).

copy the image that you want to be transparant and paste it onto the transparant image. (paste into)

align the image if nesesorry.

salect the rubber tool, set the brush as large as posable (you will haft to make a custom brush), turn off all ckeck boxes. set opacity to about 25, may recwire experimenting.

paint over the entire image without letting go of the mouse button. you should be able to partly see the cheked background.

save image as a png.

hmm yeah I didn't do that for me; maybe its the hue of the colour. I always just use colour to alpha first because if it works right it looks alot better. if it is a entity you can just set its alpha to 50 in the .fpi.

does it have to be the .fpi, or is it the .fpe?

Because it's a segment .

proper alpha chanal images are mutch better than color to alpha can ever be. color to alpha is old it was the furst way of making transparancy. you have mutch more control over the result using a alpha chanal.

If you still want to know how to make it semi transparent:

1.Open up your image in Gimp.

2.Go to Dialogs>Layers.

3.Click on your layer in the box that just came up.

4.There should be a slider at the top of the window that says Opacity Adjust the slider down to lower the opacity.(increase transparency)

5.Repeat 3&4 if theres more than one layer.

By the way, nice water.

Thankyou very much Snowblind 44 .
What do I save it as so it works in FPS Creator?

Does .tga work or do I need .png or something?

Thanks again.

You can use .jpg,.png,.bmp,.dds and .tga formats for images in FPSC.

but .jpg and .bmp won't store transparency data.

But if you use the opacity slider for partial transparancy instead of adding an alpha channel it should as you are not using an alpha channel.

Ok.... new question.

I've made a 16 frame rippling effect. (Each frame is a gimp layer) And I was wandering how I make that in game.
I think I'll just use setalpafade=50 in the main script for transparency.

I would search the Models and Media forum for particles.
That should lead you to a tutorial on how to make decals (water in FPSC is a decal).
You should find all of the information you need to make your water there.
