I'll add most of the detail with the texture

its actually better than the AK47 model used in the original Rainbow Six Game...

I made a starting texture. I might work on it more, i might not. I generally don't finish things i start.

I feel I must interject my opinion here. I think you're taking 'low-poly' a little too far. It looks, essentually, like just a couple of blocks with a pair of cylinders. I doubt the orginal Rainbow 6 had something so low poly, even as a ground mesh. It's barely even resembles the same shape. I apologies if this seems a little harsh but I can't see how people other than very inexperienced begginers can be happy with something so undetailed.

Now, to even this post out (I hate being negative) some advise. I suggest you gather some hi res reference pics and model {i]against[/i] them (it doesn't help to just have reference pics). Also, I'm not sure how other would do it, try to model it as seperate objects. Take this pic http://www.unidadepopular.org/ak-47.JPG,that could be cut into 7 seperate, reasonably, lo poly sections.

Again I apologies if this seems too harsh, I'm just tryin to help.

your criticism is welcome. My work sucks. I admit it.

I was just playing it and saw how crummy their model was, and thought: I can do that good. I'll take a screenshot in a minute.

My main problem is texturing. If anyone has any tutorials on how to make my uv maps look more like this...

and less like the one attached

the actual texturing still remains a mystery to me too. I can't create any metal textures, and can never add details

Ok, it is exceedingly low poly. Though I must ask, how old is that game now?

What are you using for your UVing needs? You seem to be UVing it from 4 seperate veiws and just leaving it. Which seems very inefficent.

UV mapper. but I'm open to other suggestions. I'm just making the UV map as a box. how do you get it so the separate parts and displayed like the example i showed?

Actually, after a little reasearch, the orginal pc rainbow six game was 1998 which makes more sense than 2003.

As for the UVing, could I suggest the autoUV of Wings3D? It's quitea powerful feature for a free proggy, but can take a bit of time to start producing decent UVs.

It looks as though you were using that screenshot as reference for your model. Why? There are millions of pictures of AK-47's out there on the internet of much better quality then that. The gun also looks like you just extruded it, which is bad. Also why does it have to be that low poly?

Really? Here's one I used about a year ago, and the resulting model (well, screenshots of it). It's not textured, that's not something I'm good at, even after a year. But the shape is a lot more correct.
