Not everyone finds Blender so easy, besides if he's not using Blender for the modelling, it can be a better option to use any of the other apps suggusted, as the interface is more utilised specifically for UV Mapping.

try winges 3d then, its sposet to be easer to use, dono if it can do uv mapping?

I don't think it does, although you might find Wings might be a good combination for modelling, personally I think it's more efficient than Milkshape with modelling itself, but animation and exporting, MS3D is a godsend for cheapskates

I'd suggest starting simple and cheap, perhaps Milkshape as it has UV mapping, animation, and there's a lot of tutorial material. It would teach you a lot about DBPro useful modelling, it might not be ideal for more complex stuff, but really it's more important to learn the skills first before tackling the often overly complex packages out there.

Then when you master milkshape, I would advise getting something like GameSpace 1.6 or Wings 3d to model, and then use milkshape purely as a animating prog
