There are alot of unecessary verts in the sole of the shoe, I created it with a cylinder before I knew I could select the # of stacks. Hopefully I can clean those up if need be. I also added verts in the neck anticipating some extra polys for animation when the head tilts. Don't really know if it's necessary or not.

info:
I have played around with numerous 3D modelling applications, but never quite took the time to learn them. I also never created my own model from scratch before. Today was my first day with modelling MS3D, and I learned alot from lots of errors.

This is my first Model (Needs Arms, Rigging, Animation, Weapon), but I'm quite proud of it. Before I go further to finish the model, I'd like to know if there is anything that I could touch up.

I tried to delete unneeded surfaces as I went along, but I decided to leave the top of the knee/thigh spheres. Not sure if that's a good idea or not?

I snapped and welded things together, and regrouped seperate parts, cleaned the Model. I'm still not exactly sure if everything is welded properly, I think I can lift off the neck if I wanted to???? Even though I'm positive I went completely around snapping verts & welding. I'll have to read the help on that.

So any constructive crit, or if you see a "Do not" somewhere please let me know.

Thanks ~Zen

well, based on your reference image, the legs are too long, as he doesn't appear to have legs at all in the reference. It also looks like he has a little too much neck there, and his feet don't look pointed enough. but it does have the right basic shape too it.

Thanks Zaibatsu, I noticed the things you mentioned while I was creating it. The feet I think I can fix up a bit. Some of the distortions are do to the fact that I don't have enough knowledge of the different tools to get the shape I want. And that 1 pic is the only reference I had. But you are absolutely correct in the fact that it's a poor likeness. In fact, to me it looks more like a bird. LOL!!!

I purposely added the extra length to the legs and gave him knees, and a neck, figuring it would be easier for me to animate him that way, and that it would make a better game character like Sonic. Perhaps it wouldn't make a difference, but I was worried that the mesh would rip when he's moving. I've read lot's of stuff on 3D modelling from here in the past, but I just didn't know how to make the poly's so that it had a little give to it. I kind of tried to use subdivide on the neck. I'll see how things work when I animate.

After this one I'll go back and try to get the model to look more like the pic. That was my original intention. Perhaps I should have stuck with that, and see what would happen???

Thanks again for the input. It'll help me pay more atttention to detail on the next model.
