Menu screen, which mimics the in-game displays...

The screens are animated decals, but there's not much you can do with sixteen frames and a fixed frame rate...

Re-textured autoslug...

Re-textured Vickers...

Nice menuscreen; but in the controls you missed out the use button, might wanna put that in.

Thanks Fred. There's a lot of potential in the stock FPSC scifi entities and segments if you can just get past the garish colour schemes. Or better still, get rid of them LOL

Quote: "P.S. You still haven't told me if I can test or not."

No

No offense, but I plan on asking one or two specific forum members if they'd like to beta-test when the time comes.

BTW I should probably have mentioned this at the top of the thread, but red|MIST will be released as freeware. My aim is to produce a short but attractive game, with a lot of interaction packed into a relatively small space. If I'd tried to do a bigger commercial release I'd have been working on it for the rest of the year, and in all probability it would never have seen the light of day (I tend to get sidetracked rather easily).

So anyone who wants to will get the chance to play it eventually

Quote: "Nice menuscreen; but in the controls you missed out the use button, might wanna put that in."

I plan on using 'press ENTER to open' HUDs, so that shouldn't be an issue. However, you've reminded me that non-FPSC users might need telling about 'right-click to pick up' (unless this is very common in other FPS games - I haven't actually played many). Thinking about it, there's also keypad 'zero' to put your weapon away before picking something up. And right-click to zoom... Are these are standard functions that any hard core FPS player would use instinctively? I'm guessing that the key controls in FPSC were designed to mimic those of most popular FPS games?

Quote: "Love the black autoslug, the orange never did it for me"

Yeah, who the heck would manufacture an orange firearm? If you came across the stock autoslug stored in a locker you'd be forgiven for thinking it was an over-ambitious flare gun!

Cheers

how many lights and how big can i build my level before it drops framerate (im happy with anything over 27) :/ on a standard home computer (so others dont have preformance issues)

You don't have them per se, you just have all the parts needed to make them. As I said earlier, I used the scifi Military Corridor segments from FPSC, re-textured with a combination of Military Corridor, Service Corridor and Maintenance Corridor.

Quote: "how many lights and how big can i build my level before it drops framerate (im happy with anything over 27) :/ on a standard home computer (so others dont have preformance issues)"

As Slayer222 said, every computer is different, making that question virtually impossible to answer. One persons 'standard home computer' could be anothers 'state of the art computer'. For example, I'm using an AMD 1.8 GHz with 1 GB of RAM, which I would imagine is considered a bit underpowered by FPS standards.

Thanks rolfy I've been keeping an eye on your 'Eldora' thread - you're doing some beautiful work there.

I love the work I see here but just make sure the levels don't become so massive that when you decide to add enemy's the frame rate bottoms. Just some ideas keep up the work!

P.S. I would really like to see some amazing bloody zombies popping out!

GPS - a 1.8 GHZ processor? Damn, that must be killing you, I've got issues building a game at a reasonable pace with a 4.0 GHZ from intel.

Its not so much having it work as it is having it run at a reasonable pace for constant testing...

Now, is this spell checker I'm seeing from the forum or Firefox? Whatever it is it's cool.

Um, I think I can see one or two subtle differences...

Of course, if the Vickers had been orange to begin with, the change would have been more noticeable

I rather like that Vickers retexture. Maybe when red-MIST is done, you can release some weapon retextures?

Can you post more screens of red-MIST dev?

Looking good GPS. Some of the best graphics ive seen in an FPSC game.

It looks like youre using normal mapping. However you said you didnt get any good results with the shaders exept for light maps. I may have understood you wrong or something but are you using normal mapping or is it just me?

@American Infantry - once red|MIST is done I'll be releasing several bits of media from the game - almost certainly including the weapon re-textures. More screenshots to come soon.

@Yoad Fototototo - thanks

@brummel - just light mapping. As it happens, normal mapping gives me the worst results of all FPSC shaders.

cheers

GPS - For your to-be-released creations, if there is anything that is largely FPSC stock content you'd like to release send me an e-mail and I'll give you the latest version of my FPSC-only content installer. It takes some work to setup yourself though, because I have yet to finish the setup program *cough* for the past year *cough*

Here's why:

When a file's link redirects to the home page it means that it was removed from the database. The author will have to re-upload the file.

@Airslide - cheers mate, a lot of red|MIST's content is customized FPSC stock, so that would come in very handy. I'll be in touch.

@Yoad Fototototo - sorry, no demo. The game is designed to be short and sweet, so a demo would have to be ridiculously miniscule.

@brummel - I've only ever played two FPS games, Doom 3 and Soldier of Fortune 2. I suspect you can guess which of those has been the principle influence on red|MIST

@Bloodeath 6 6 6 - I'll try and get some more screens up in the next few days.

Cheers

@gps

When you where asking about the control schemes for most FPS games, I find that some of FPS Creator's controls are rather uncommon. For example:

-FPS Creator

Pick up: Right click
Zoom: Right click
Put away: #0

-Halo

Pick up: Nonexistent, Right click is throw grenade
Zoom: "Z" on keyboard
Put away: Nonexistent

-F.E.A.R.

Pick up: Nonexistent, Right click is melee
Zoom: Shift
Put away: "H" on keyboard

-Half-Life 2

Pick up: "E" on keyboard, Right click is secondary attack
Zoom: "Z" on keyboard
Put away: Nonexistent

Also Delta force black hawk down:

Pick-up: None
Zoom: Mouse Wheel Or '-' and '+'
Put away: none

To everyone else, FPSC's controls are very common in FPS games besides pick up and put away...zoom is pretty common.

@rolfy - I have an allergic reaction to deadlines (which is why I do this as a hobby, and not as a job) so I'm afraid I'll have to fall back on the old cliche of 'it'll be done when it's done'.

@Pols Voice, Duplex, Snowblind 44 - Thanks for the info. I've decided to have some of the ship's display screens provide added bits of game info, positioning them so that (with luck) the player finds the info before they need it. For example, you haven't had a chance to pick anything up before you pass this screen...

On with some more screenies, and it just occurred to me that I haven't done any arty low-angle shots yet...

It's not a proper scifi shooter unless you have to crawl through ventilation shafts...

Exploring the innards of the ship...

Typical engineers, always leaving stuff half finished...
