My hard drive died. I lost everything.

If you are waiting for LYTE:FX I may have to refund you.

I don't know if I'll be around for a bit.

Really very upset.

Peace.

My condolences.
I can think of a few words to say but they are all against the AUP.
I have been there done that.
I figure I just bought a gig of memory for my pc so about two days after I install it my computer will explode.
Dude...this sucks.
I have all of the files (because I bought it) so if you need to get the app to someone who bought it send me an e-mail (if you can) and I can get them their stuff and send you confirmation or whatever.
Just let me know.
Once again...I am sorry as I am sure most of the forum members will be when they read this.

This may be a bad time to bring it up, but you can never have enough backup. If you don't have you critical files backed up... do it now. It's the best investment you hope you'll never use.

Sorry for your loss.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

I had a drive go and had to pay 1700 GBP and wait two terrible months for a data recovery company, they didnt know zip and didnt get the data back correctly, so all that money for nothing, but I got it back myself with a program I got for under 80 quid, tell me whats wrong with the drive, perhaps I have some ideas. As long as its not hardware, like the drive is gone or the chips are burnt out, there is off the shelf software that can get it back.

Can you piggyback the drive, as in use one good drive to boot with as your C: drive, then have the bust drive as a slave to that, say D: or whatever, then access the drive, as in look at your files.

Post what the problem is and perhaps I have some ideas that can help.

Holy cow, that's horrible. I saw your entire entity band, and it was enormous. I can't believe you lost all of that. I feel for you, I lost two years of stuff in October. I hope you come back though.

Butters, you might want to check this out.

http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

It's a long shot, but if there's a flicker of life left in your HD you might be still be able to get something out of it.

GetDataBack is a great program. When you get your new HD just slave the one that died and run the program. You will get your data back unless you have crushed the cylinders or already set it on fire. We use this program all the time at the Hospital when our HDs crash and we need to get important patient information. Give it a try.

I tried installing my new Nvidia8800, but I needed a PCI Express slot. So In the end I got a dual core motherboard to mount it on.

Set it all up..deleted old graphics card and mother board drivers off my harddrives, put HDs into new compy and installed new MB and Graphics card drivers, restarted computer and got a "windows canoot be started as NVANA89641.dll cannot be found error" (or something)

So, I stick in the (life saving) windows CD, and go to repair mode, but it wants my admin password....now I use 3 HDs, but the core one, the one the others are slaved to is the one thats messed up. To run windows repair I need the admin password. Which I created almost 5 years ago, and have no recollection what it was. So as far as I can tell I'm screwed.

All my Maya, milkshape and PSDs are on my other slave drive (not fpsc ready), so I've only lost all my FPSC ready content. Anyway, the PC doctor is coming out to check it today, so maybe it'll be ok...dammit I hope so.

Anyway, what a time for this to happen! It's my Birthday tomorrow!

Peas.

I hope the pc doctors are cheaper than the people doctors...
Kind of an off topic questionish-type thing...
Are you saying if I buy a DirectX 10 compatible graphics card (there are some for about a c note ($100) so why buy anything less at this point?) I am going to have to buy a whole new motherboard?
And if I do will the GB of memory I just purchased work on it?
On topic again...
I hope the doc can save whatever it is you have left.I wish you luck Butters.

The new Nvidia cards take AGP and PCI express, although as far as I can gather the PCI express has slightly better performance. I was gutted because my 2GB of DDR2 is not compatible with my new PCI express board, so I had to buy new RAM, new mother board and new power supply (with PCI connectors) just to run this new card, blew about £300 in total. And it killed my HD. not best pleased.

still, at the end of it I should have 2GB ram, a 4GB processor, and 786MB DX10 graphics card. Which would be just lovely if it worked.

ouch! i know what its like to have a HD die, one of my old ones kept rejecting the motherboard and then died so i now have to use a smaller one as its the only one i got that works with the motherboard. anyway, hope the pc guy can revive that HD of yours, it would be a huge shame if all your work was just gone like that, as for lyte:fx etc, why dont you ask someone who bought it that you trust to send you the files so you can continue doing business.

Get A hard drive to use as master then install on that and you can get to your other drives after you install on the new drive.
Burn or ftp to a server your files.
