Will X9 games play in vista? I have XP Pro SP2. I had a friend try to play one I Sent to him on his Vista PC and he said that it got the load screen and crashed. Other friends that I have sent the games to that have XP didnt have any issues getting it ot run.

He didnt specify the errors but said there were a few.

Are there any known issues with X9 games in Vista?

Most should work...I think there is a compatibility thing or something, I'm not sure, I don't have Vista.

i have some working ok,
fpsc works fine ,
but had problems until loading sdk 2007,
even max works ok with the new extension pack.
most games requre you to run them as administrator
this could be a problem when geting error mesages,

As for running FPSC in Vista:
Running FPSC in Vista is not the issue.

Thats the issue.

Key words being:

Not FPSC its self, Just the games made using FPSC on the XP Pro SP2 Platform.

As for running Max in Vista:
Not an issue

As for running the games as admin in Vista:
That was tried and it failed.

But thanks for the info pdidy.

As Airslide was saying, you can run programs in XP compatibility mode. Right click the executable..

Properties->Compatibility(tab at top)

There is a checkbox to run in compatibility mode. Nice thing about that is as long as the exe isnt removed that setting will stay.

I would also say that your friend might want to dl the most recent dx9 just in case DX10 spits it out.

It was not on a CD and XP compatibility mode didnt work.

I have been using FPSC for almost 2yrs now. I am aware of both the fact that it wont run from a cd and how to run it in compatibility mode.

Good thoughts though.

Well a thought just popped in my head...FPSC runs fine on Vista for me. I had to get dx9 to make it run though. That said, if the engine runs ok for me the games should too.

I will test this out when I get home from work tonight and post back.

EDIT:
Ok so I built the scifi.fpm and it loads and runs and everything. I don't think Vista matters because you need dx9 anyway.

2nd EDIT:
If you can find out what the errors were maybe we can help a little more.

@Dreadful

I would love to know what build settings you are using because every setting I used screws up the shaders and the entities.

The version of Vista makes no difference so what are running in your PC as well, just for the sake of comparison.

Like I said it was a game that I built on my PC. Tried to run it on a friends PC. I am waiting for more info from them.

I'll Let ya know.

Later!

---------

Edit:
Ok I have some new info but it wont help. This is what the error said when he tried to run the game:

its a general error

Like I said not really helpful.

This is info from his event log:

He has Vista Ultimate 64bit and has DX10 installed .

Untill I decide to change it, Yes.

Any input on the issue, or does it have to remain one of the great mysteries of the universe?

I just asked because I have a CD emulator and Farstone is the name of the company producing it. I wasn't sure if it was your game or some software they made. Nevermind I guess.

Sorry man, apparently I am the only one with Vista trying to help you out and it looks awful for me.

EDIT:
Downloaded the OCT/06 SDK and the shaders and lightmaps look better, but the entities are still rearranged. I would say even if your game didn't crash, it probably wouldn't be worth playing after what Vista does to it.
