Hello All.
I was at the book store tonight looking for books to increase my knowledge in game design, and came across a book teaching 3D model design using a software called Milkshake. Has any one heared of this program and is compatibla with FPS.

OMG!! Thats just what I need, whats the book called?!

Yes it is, I use and It is very cheap conpared to other moddeling programs. I dont know the exact website, but just google it.

If only you were me... Then You'd understand.

it's called

Milkshape, not a drink

it costs 25 $

but there's a trial version available

Hey Duplex, I forgot the name of the book, But I will stop by the book store and get it. The milkshake software was included with the book along with other 3d software and it was around $54.00, I'll get the name tomorrow.

Deathead - All depends on preference. I couldn't do squat in Blender, but I love Milkshape.

I'm in love with Blender. Milkshape isn't that great. It makes some sloppy models.

whats with all the "milkshake" hating? both programs are good. milkshape is simpler and easier to learn but blender is still good.One aspect of milkshape thats more appealing is the fact that uv mapping is so easy where in blender its not so simple. Blender is good for sculpting.

Awhile ago I used milkshape but recented installed an older version of 3ds max from my collection, so Milkshape is no more.

However, I love using sketchup as its so dirt quick to make models in.

I see what I want to game means its because you have to keep pressing buttons to get there.

Blender is Great for making Detailed Models though. Whos ever watched Elephants Dream? That was all done in blender.

I found milkshape simple and easy to use but I would get the trail version and a few free tuts of the internet before spending a lot of cash

I never get what to do in milkshape, I way prefer box modeling/drawing and extruding and stuff. Rather than a poly modeler.

EDIT: Oh! and don't forget boolean tools! they rock

The UV mapper in Blender is so insanely easy! All you do is select a face / faces, hit U and boom there you go!

I skiped church today and saw that book at barnes and noble book store. It is called The complete guide to 3D game design and it came with a cd with trial versions including milksake. It cost $54.99 and its really thick book.

Blender and Milkshape are the best combonation you can get.

When you first look at blender, it will look like you are starring at 3ds Max 2 Professional edition for Professionals.

Look for the noob-to-pro wiki for blender, and go through a few random tutorials.

Then Blender will make Milkshape look like C++ professional.

Blender is a little costly. It costs £0.00.
It's cost is all in the bandwidth it takes up.
Only 200 some odd mbs, but a lot of people only have 100mbs leftover.

Milkshape is like £13 or something, but it will be a good importer-exporter.

What I do, is I model in Blender using all of it's cool tools, use the merge tool to lower the polygons a bit, then throw it over to Milkshape, where I import a FPSC model, and scale/rotate mine properly to make it the right size and angle, then remove the model I used as a ruler, then export the object.

Blender has been used for over 8 theatre/dvd movies, one of them is a short film featured at the blender website.

Some people like to use Google Sketchup, but I find it hard trying to keep things even.

Does anyone even know why 3ds Max costs so much? Seriously, what is it's special feature that lets it be over £1500 more then blender (In other words, just over £1500, since blender is free)?



Again, for those of you who find blender a pain to use, you will find the Blender Noob-to-Pro wiki extremely useful. It will help you learn blender.


But some people don't like the interface of blender, and some people don't like the simplicity of milkshape.

Really, it depends on the person using it. But if the person wants to be able to use Blender and Milkshape fluently, they need to check out the tutorials online.

And is that book USA only?

You can import models from FPs to milkshape? When I click on the import tab I see evrything but FPS. Also i got a trial version of corel paint. when the time comes some one will have to show me how to do skins for my 88 flak gun.

Oh me, oh my. I started out modelling with sketchup and I think besides truespace, it is the worst modelling program ever. But then again, sketchup is only meant for making buildings to put on google earth.

I don't like Sketchup to much scaling difficulty, but I recommend milkshape because the fact you can animated with key frames and thats what FPSC supports so it's REALLY easy to make animated weapons/entity's

just downloaded Milkshape and want to change .max and .3ds files into xfiles plus i want to texture them. Does it tell me how or can you guys help me?
