Custom Games - Exporting Source Code

Hi all,

Me and a few friends are going to write an FPS game similar in style to Pariah and Half Life 2. (obviously not as big and good as those though).

I have noticed FPSCreator, and it looks brilliant, but we all want to do a lot of our own weapon/item/map creation and some of us are experienced enough in programming to have a decent stab at making a game.

What I would like to know is whether we can use FPSCreator for some of the basic work and then add in our own code and objects, or even export the code from FPSC to something like Visual C# 2005 with XNA Games Studio Express. That is the program we originally wanted to use. If this is not possible, we are going to attempt to do the whole thing from scratch anyway, but it would be goo to use FPSC as a jumping off point.

Thanks everyone in advance for all you help. We really appreciate it. And anyone who helps us with this question can have a free copy of the game when it is finished (not that that will be any time soon!).

Thanks

Cair Paravel, Wai-Sing-Au, D5PS2Z0J, SkinnySkinner, and all the others involved in the project.

At the minute you can't export FPSC code and even if you couyld it would be for the Dark Basic Pro language which I would recommend as it is very good. XNA will do the job if you are looking to make games for an xbox 360, but you can't sell any 360 game made in it. You also have to have a certain type of model format which isn't as popular as the file formats daek basic handles. Another good thing about DBP is that you can seel any games you make and it will probably require a lot less coding than it will to make a game in c#.

Thanks Wizzkid.

I have decided to use XNA and Visual3D.NET which will be totally free and just as good as FPS Creator. It integrates with XNA completely so I will be able to do a lot of the code that I want in it myself and then just use Visual3D.NET for the models and landscapes.

I would definately recommend it to anyone who wants to make a game, but feels that FPS Creator is too basic and easy to use. FPSC is good, but I will get MUCH more satisfaction out of doing it this way as I know that I have done a lot of the work myself and I can truly call it MY game.
