Hmmm, well how do you fire it? and wheres the ammo/energy/fuel rod at? But becides that it looks like a .50 cal without the barrel. Good start I guess, but as you get better start adding some detail to it.

No offence, but it looks like a (not mapped) model with normal map of DooM 3 shotgun. You should really add some things like ammo clip, handle and other.

Make games, not war.

saying "it's a futuristic gun so it doesn't have to look like anything" is kind of a cop out. a well designed fictional piece of equipment should still at least look like it could work. The same advice given about creating steampunk designs goes for sci-fi designs too. Ask yourself "how would this work?". Even if the answer you come up with is something like "it pulls energy from the air and concentrates it into an projectile" well ok, now you can put things on the gun like the energy drawing nodes, maybe a status light, and definitely a trigger. Even most futuristic guns are modeled after modern guns. why? most modern guns don't look terribly different than older guns. something to keep in mind for your next one.

With some more detail, and better texture it could be really cool. I'm not great with abstract-future-prediction-technology. It could turn out that that's exactly what a gun, laser/gun, atom-shasher gun, high audio frequency gun could look like. So it's hard to tell what the ammo is, or should be. Or what features such a device may need.

The only thing I can say for sure, is that the texture kind of looks like black foam, wrapped in duct tape. Which is probably not your aim. I like the dark gritty texture, perhaps if it were mapped better, It would give it a different feel.

Just keep working at it. I'm sure it will impress with a little toch-up!!!!

I located this and it might help give some ideas. Using your gritty texture, and modeling some details. Not sure about adding those coils at the end of the barrel. I like the look, but it's pretty cliche I guess. It does add interest to it. Perhaps you can tweak it a little to make a more original tesla-like coil or something.

This looked cool too, unfortunately the actual site won't open.
