DB for schools is a great idea! I would like to do my Advanced Higher Computing project on DB but my Computing teacher has never even heard of it! Hopefully now I won't be stuck using VB. Shame it's not DBP though.

I'd just like to know, what are the pictures on the covers of the newsletters? Are they just out of the blue or are they from an actual project? IE- Something DBDNers would know about?

I've heard somewhere that those pictures are from FPS Creator, a tool similar to The 3D GameMaker which is being developed in DBPro.

That pic is from FPS Creator which is probably a bit ironic because next issue we're planning a big feature on it. Ah well

Cheers,

Nilrem - try and sign-up again. If you're already on it, it'll give you an error (it won't let you sub twice, don't worry).

Might a spam filter have caught it by accident?

Kind of the converse, but a lot of spam messages have been slipping through my filter lately because they have newsletter titles...

Don't have a spam filter enabled Mouse, but I'll quickly check if DB has been somehow put on the filter list.

Choose your Junk Mail Filter level:
Default (obvious junk mail is caught)

No way for me to uncheck, but it doesn't stop porn etc from getting through so...

Where does the newsletter come from? (What is the email address? That way I can make sure it doesn't get filtered as junk, it hasn't before but you know M$).

lol. joshualimm if you want to know more it only costs (can't remember exactly) about £30 to subscribe to DBDN for 3 months. Otherwise, it's another month of waiting. I don't think I'm allowed to tell you yet how long to go before FPSC is released, so I'll shut up now.

@Rich

I know that you are busy, but do you know when you will be able to check those DBDN NDA docs I sent for the tutorial which you accepted? There seems to be a lot going on inside closed doors now

*I am a patient guy, I'll wait! Honest!

Look forward to the new website features as well

free for schools. What a great idea! And good for marketing too Though it may distract the hard working people at school . Heh, the school computers cannot run the programs since their graphics card are so weak...

Yeah at my school the computers are something like 75MHz processors with 32MB RAM. I haven't even heard the word "graphics card" anywhere near those computers. My principal teacher is looking for a reason to convince the council we need a new computer suite(look at the previous sentence!!! - if that isn't enough the what is?) so hopefully DB for schools will be another good reason for us to get a new suite.

OMG Computers in our school are worse than CRAP!!! Some can't even print or save word docs for lack of memory! We have like 50 of those in the library for use, then there are slightly better ones for the business classrooms, slightly better ones for the programming classrooms, and ok comps for the media arts/comm tech etc classes. The thing I find pointless is there are a few classrooms with just comps for any class to book and go to for internet use and such. One of these rooms, which no one ever uses I must add, has NEW P4s!!! OMG!!! These comps NEVER do anything more intensive than INTERNET! We could of used them in the tech/arts wing, but NOOOOOO. Damn business bastards get em. Then, one gets stolen because everyone in the school new the keypad code to get into the class room. Idiots, the lot!

Ok that was off topic...

@raps

We just use keys for the doors - old fashioned but reliable

Most of our PCs are Athlon 1200+ / ATI 3DAIW - enough to run DBP apps, but not some of the nice effects like shaders.

What is worst about my school is that our Physics department has three adequate computers, but our Physics teacher is a virusaphobe. He never allows anyone to use his computers anymore.

PS. We just use keys too. If we cared enough about security to have keypads on the doors we would have to start putting bars on the windows, considering some of the people in our town.
And o yes, our Physics teacher also has bike locks on his computers.

The funniest thing about most virus-paranoid people is that most of them don't have a clue about what is likely to be a virus and what is harmless.

30!!?? Nah, no thanks. I'll wait for it next month...hehe And no prob about having to keep your mouth shut, witchbomber. Just trying to get rich to "accidentally" let something slip out.

Anyway, back when I was in secondary school, the school only had 8 computers (Yup, the WHOLE school), and each of em was like...some amd card which is DEFINITELY slower than a Pentium 133. That was simply because the teachers in school couldn't quite figure out how a computer works. There was once an essay writing competition, where students had to submit their work in a floppy disc. And there was this stupid teacher who executed a virus, and I was at the computer lab the WHOLE day, "helping" the school make backup copies of students information, and at the same time, wondering how can someone mistake a .doc file with a .exe/.com/.bat file....

Point is, the computers in my previous school was so lousy. I was trying to teach my computer club members db programing, but after installing my copy on a machine and testing it, the computer froze. hehe
