Well it's been a very long time since i've shown off work here.
Some might remember what i can do, but most probably won't.
Over the comming weeks hopefully this'll become something fun that will make this forum a bit brighter.

The main point in this will be, simply to challenge me to make something. The idea will be you post what you'd like to challenge me with, this can be a description or even concept work.

I'll then make it an show the results in a development diary on my livespace as well as the finished product image/video here.
Note: this is not "Get Raven to make your game media for free", as such no media itself that could be used in-game will be released.

What I will do is put some restrictions on this.
• There will be no time limit. I'm not going to do a speed challenge, I'll be working to the speed and hours I normally would if I was working full-time. Although no doubt many will be completed within a day, some might take longer.
• If you request to see something animated, you are restricted to 2 animations. So choose carefully.
• You can request for effects to be on the final model, however you can't ask for an effect to be created with specific shaders or techniques. I'll create these based on what I believe would be best for a game engine.

On the side (out of hours) I'll be making 3D areas so that I can show off what is create in-game. Using a basic DirectX9.0c 3D Engine.. so don't think you're restricted to characters, weapons or vehicles. The challenge could be for anything.

I will start new challenges on the following day to one I've just completed; until the end of May. Then this will become weekly. Look forward to seeing what imaginative things people come up with for me to bring to life.

Perhaps a mech warrior, they take a lot of playing around with and are fiddly, might be a challenge for you, I dunno, never seen your other work (Perhaps a sample just to make it easier to answer, eg. If I were to give you an organic challenge when you're an organic God and suck at architecture, it would be pointless )

If you ask Raven he is a God across all spectrums real, imagined, and yet to be imagined. So it won't help you any.

j/k Raven

I've seen some of Raven's work here a few years back. Usually amzing, high quality, very professional from a modeling and texturing standpoint. Honestly not much weakness in any area of modeling.

Last time I was around I believe you were doing some work for Perfect Dark 0. I'll have visit your MySpace, to catch up on your feelings on what went right and what went wrong.

My challenge would be:

Modelling a Transformer, for instance Optimus Prime. Not sure if this is fair, as it would be one heck of a challenge, and given the 2 animation frames, I would obvisouly want to see (nearly complete) vehicle state and (nearly complete) Robot Form. It would be cool if it were the same model.

So given your time frame, this may be a bit over the top. It's just something I always wanted to see.

Sort of following on with Sepp's idea and also inspired by the upcoming movie.

Make a transformer. With a unfolding and folding up animation.
You can pick the vehicle, or somebody else can.

Nice idea. Forums need this.

Let me try.. You could make a caricature of yourself or any famous person. Maybe making it a zombie, goth, rockstar, scientist..

Lots of ideas, heh.. think the transformer one is a good one to start with. Would be the best challenge, any particular vehicle you want it to be?

One you can steal from google and claim as your own...I kid I kid. I'd name a tranformer, I have never watched it, but something big and badass, they usually have more to into detail with, so it might be interesting to see what you come up with.

Actually what i ment was name a vehicle you want me to make in to a transformer. That way rather than making say "Optimus Prime" where there are a lot of references for, it would be something i could use my imagination to concept on how it would transform.

First thing that popped in to my mind when the first suggestion for this came in was, "Citroen C4 advert".

Make it transform into a 3 story tall potato...

You could then mix some cool organic stuff into the transformer as well.

I have no signature...

Yes it is, I've seen a few of them. Apparently police aren't allowed to use the PIT maneuver against them due to being three wheeled . So as you're making one does this mean we also make one that should be better than yours?

@Raven, I give you props for taken on that challenge and creating your own. I thought it would be difficult enough to model an actual transformer, with design specs available, nevermind designing your own.

I chose A Transformer as it really can test the skill of any modeler as well as mechanical engineer. I've tried sketching up my own designs (non-computer) and it challenges all aspects of geometry, spacial rotation, design, engineering, balance, yet allows room for creativity. It's one thing to build a model of a car, where many areas can be hidden. Another thing altogether to have the car look decent, and to have the transformed robot keep the same interest. Can't wait to see how you approach this. Good luck!

Apparently it is classed as a moped, so you can drive one of these crazy things at the age of 16 instead of 17...

I want one! It's probably fuel efficient to an extent. Nice for all the local stop&go trips. If they are still sold, how much would one run?

Can I drive it in the U.S?

you could probably pick one up quite cheap, I know the failed 1998 attempt to revamp it called the Reliant 65 generally goes for about £2,000ish. The problem here with the cost of these cars is simple it was on Only Fools and Horses, as well as Mr Beans car of choice. So people get them for that sorta aspect.

Dad got one for my mom when she wanted to learn to drive, but she didn't end up learning until the late 80s. When my dad drove it (cause the 700cc engine would run to about 45mpg which for the early 80s was damn good, modern ones now do 60-100mpg) he has a habit of getting it flipped over in strong cross-winds down Sarret (country lanes on the outskirts of town)

In all they're interesting to drive, but I'd much rather have a Carver-One lol

Have you seen the newer Lincolns lately? Very boxy and plain, like most new cars, would probably be easier than the Robin. But if anyone models a continental, it MUST have suicide doors!

@Raven, Is all cool. Take your time. It's not like you took the easy route. I was partially joking when I thought transformer. Thinking that there was no way in heck anyone would choose this.

That being said, It would be nice to see concept sketches. I always wondered how a pro approaches these tasks. And it would be a good learning experience to see it in different stages.

I know some of raven's history, not 1st person, but just from all the reading I have done over the years. I never had a problem with his posts though. I have always seen him as someone who had a lot of good information, although some may argue that not all of it is true.

Edited: for brevity sake.

Raven, try a Tizona replica. No animation, maybe a texture. The challenge is getting the details correct.
If you can do this, I'll blend you a medal.

Here are some images:

Do you think you can do it with the guard details?

Please, take your time. This is definitely not a 10-minute job (Well if you do it right... ). (That is if you want to do it)

definately some cool ideas, will show things when i finally get time. been totally swamped trying to push an xbox live arcade title; trying to get a publisher is a pain in the arse especially getting close to E3.

working on all of the ideas left so far in the spare time i get though. right now working on some artwork for a dbp product, so i'll probably show that off first; then move onto a 2007 Reliant Robin Transformer... i've lovingly called it Roland
