Hi everyone,
A while back I finished the Quake 2 campaign and I was impressed. I ran it on my Linux comp an the sound didn't work so please don't kill me when it comes to sounds. I have started work on it now bu at the moment no light-maps or good custom media are in the levels yet so please hold on for a while you will get some screenies soon, that is why I posted here. Some of you may know I am currently working on EOT well this will not change as this is only a side project. Please post comments on what you would or wouldn't like to see. Right now I am working on segments and entities. Quack 2 (like the name? ) will use stock weapons, hands and weapon re-textures are possible but aren't happening now. All C&C is welcome at any time.

I love quake 2, you should be able to do it pretty well, Im sure the engine should be able to handle it. I look forward to seeing some screens.

Thanks just finished 4 more pieces of custom media; a closed drop-ship (real quake 2 style although some might think the UV map needs work it was meant to be the way it is though) and 3 different types of ramp segments. BTW this version has a BIT of humor, like the name Thanks for your comment,

lol all jokes aside, the name hasn't been settled but I like the current one because it matches the original so much. It won't be humorous enough to be called Quackers 2 either but does anybody know if it's possible to have weapons that share ammo? My FPSC instinct says no but I hope yes.

OK well time for a bump. Some facts about this fan game: it will be free and if anybody wants to help out it would be great. It will feature the same level design like you can look at any place and know exactly where that is in Quake 2. It will have about three levels (for now). It will have three weapons, the Mossberg 1000 double-shot shotgun aka shotgun, the XR-A1 Laser Sidearm (or XLS) aka blaster, grenades well uh... aka grenades and the (probably last) Uzi Sub-machine gun aka the Machine Gun. I will update these as I go along. There may also be a law rocket launcher but that would be going against the original. Quack 2 will (hopefully) be updated as suggested and hopefully better scripts and media will emerge as it progresses. I will release an alpha of the first level soon. there have been various re texture projects for Quake 2, perhaps you could use those for your segemnts etc.

[Edit] OK more pics! two segments side by side in a 2X2 room. no light-mapping or anything it's just to show the segments. There are 3 Quake 2 segments so far: ramps of various size but the same cement texture. yellow room used a lot in Q2. and a slimy metal room. BTW click on them to see in detail. These look a bit low rez, is it just the pic, or is it the texture, they may of been repeated in Q2, but you have spread one map over a the suffice once, in Q2 the small texture may of repeated many times, segments in fpsc are 100 pixels, I think a man is 72 pixels, see how many pixels a man is in Q2, that will give you a conversion rate, or find a texture that is well known from Q2 see how big it is in game and scale it to fit, or just use your eye to do it.

No, do it this way,
the segments are 100 pixels squared but in fpsc have textures of 512x512, if your Q2 tex is 128 pixels then have it repeat 4 times, not sure what paint prog you use, in photoshop you would open the Q2 tex, do select- all, copy- to patten, then open new file 512x512, select paint bucket from tool bar, select fill, pattern, goto the pattern icon, find the pattern you made, then pain bucket into the new file, it will repeat this into the new texture, save the new texture out, that's it done, put the new texture onto the segment.

Let me make some things clear here. What media you can use in your games that you can display at these forums if it is not created by you and what constitutes a team request is a matter for the Moderators here to ascertain.

Mods here have a duty to protect the best interests of TGC and these forums. Anything at all which contains anything of any dubious matter or possible concern to TGC over which there is some doubt may not be allowed to continue.

Whether or not your final game is intended to be distributed freely or not has no bearing here.

I am by the way always around and will keep a watch on the thread. When there are screen shots or any download made available I will consider this again and at which time if it is acceptable and still here it will be moved to the showcase forum.

Hey Slayer, not to be rude but those screenshots lack lightmapping a lot. I'd set the ambience to 5 and try to create realistic lighting. This may not be like Quake 2, (which lacked in the technology) for the lighting, but look at Doom. They remade it into Doom 3 and look at what they did (assuming you played it.)
Try to make a good looking fan game with updated effects, so you can make the fan game better than Quake 2 itself.

Try to find, or model a Strogg soldier. You know, go the distance.

Ummmmm... Uman I did not understand that very much sorry so much lawyer talk hurts my head (or maybe I am just tired). But I am 99% than none of my media is stolen and If I use any it is with full rights (unless I misunderstood something). If I am incorrect please right me. Now ASTEK I told you those are early screenshots with no LMs. This game (if I finish it is becoming too much work) will most likely be made with X10 to make the best of it's water effects.
