3 Dimensional Chat / My first attempt at modelling...got a question

Alright...here is my first attempt at actually modeling something, enough of the researching HOW it is done ha ha.

Here is what I have modeled so far

This is the drawing...modified by the computer...for reference of my world .


This is the overhead view...look familiar...like oh say my drawing? ha ha.


This one is just to show that yes its 3-D lol.

Its just one big map at the moment...I plan to break it into different pieces so that it won't have to process that entire thing at once. Now for my question.
What would you all suggest would be a good program to use to texture my terrain? I have been unable to find any good free ones, and if there are any that I have not noticed sorry.
Suggestions anyone? Thanks in advance

you could always takethe bitmap file and then use that to texture it in photoshop or like program. then save the new file as a .tga file..

You know...I didn't think about that lol...I'll go look to see how to use / make a .tga file...whatever that is

Hmm...just noticed that my pictures didn't show...and 2 links arent there...oh well...thanks for the info.

a .tga is a targa texture file, it's basically more compressed than .bmp or .dib, but keeps alot of quality
