A long time ago, Tinker referred me to this site. From that site I found an average male reference image, except its not in the standard 3d modelling pose. A few minutes in flash fixed that problem (this is roughly traced):

Feel free to use it.

um, the neck's too thick, the arms and legs should be relaxed. Sorry ruccus, but that's not a good reference really.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

i wasn't aware that was the standard modeling reference pose. i thought it was arms outstretched, legs together and straight.

I thought legs were usually spread a small amount, but not that much. But otherwise, it is an interesting find...

best posture for modeling is actually both legs and arms only slightly away from the body (about 20degrees), doesn't make the actual modeling any easier, but it's what the reference animation pose should be to make sure that you can have the entire range without vertex stretching.

if you want to see some good reference images then check out bobotheseal.com, as he generally makes some good 3qtr turn arounds. Titan (paul lasalle) used to have some good ones too, but his site is down atm.

i have a habit of trawling some of the professional concept artist sites to see what new personal work they've done as a challenge to make. going to be doing one of the new ones from bobo's site soon for kicks ^_^

That is not a male. It hasn't got a wilkins for a start, let alone nipples and a chin

Haha, well I wouldn't expect to see any of that unless you were making a game that takes place on a nudist beach. :-P Clothes usually hide that sort of thing.

And anyways, that's what textures are for.

But don't people usually have multiple views of a reference pic? It would be hard to get the depth looking right if you don't use a side reference...

i came across this site a few months back, not sure of its legality because they all look like scans of books, etc.

Still, its a nice site for reference

it's a perfectly legal site, personally i'm a member of 3dart.sk which is a branch of the same site that you pay monthly for; but access to a staggeringly huge and professionally shot library of high-resolution animals and people.

would strongly recommend it for anyone serious about character development.

Forget this post because it may start arguments again. Like on the thread

Now that i started an argument and i don't want it to happen agains so forget this.

Raven: I've been meaning to join something like that for a while, i find that my anatomy books and the free sites aren't really the best for all my needs.

Deathead: Have you ever seen a human anatomy book?
How else can you look at the human form in its true form if its fully clothed?
There is nothing pervy about the site, its a nice site to get free human anatomy reference which is essential when designing characters.

Deathead: do you think life drawing classes are taken in brothels?

there's something very wrong with anyone that thinks any depiction of nudity is porn.

I don't have a sig, live with it.
