There a program called 'Tattoo' that's free.

Or you have Zbrush or Deep paint 3D, Hexagon (bwahahaha, sorry I dislike Hexagon's painting tools )

These sort of apps are usually a pain to find - because their creators no longer support them.

Found it (official sites appears to be dead)- apparently it's not completely free, but it's shareware, so I assume the restrictions won't be a pain.

Good idea, I'm doing exactly the same thing Look on the bright side you get a really decent modeller/renderer as well as a texture painter.

I know, the Z2 demo is mighty sexy and really impressed me, but the Z3 videos...have made me set up a little shrine in the corner of my room to sit down and worship the CEO of Pixologic.

Of course, instead of flat out buying it, I'd advise you'd email Pixologic and request a demo of Zbrush 2 and follow my Z2 beginner to 1st detailed model tutorial (As it appears they've taken all of theirs off of the website to be replaced by the Z3 ones)
