so anyone know how to make those fancy afterimage trail effects that some games feature can't think of one though... Like a ball flies through the air and a ghosted trail follows it. I've been working with it and can't think of a good way to do it (thats not super memory intensive)

I've done a simple example to show you one possible method. The history variables are actually superfluous because you can read off the object position instead, but I used them because it makes the code easier to read.
