I haven't used IRC in about 8 years. Hadn't needed it since the instant messengers got mature. So, potentially having to pay for mIRC to talk on the DarkGDK.Net Channel isn't an option I'm willing to take. That got me to thinking Trillian use to do IRC. At first glance, it doesn't give you IRC as a connection option, but it's plugin is just turned off by default.

Here are the steps I took to get it to work:

1. I'm using the latest Trillian 3.1.5.1. Basic edition.

2. goto Trillian Preferences, under Plug-ins, Turn on the IRC plugin.

3. under Identities & Connections, click Add a new Connection, choose IRC

4. In the new block that appears, type in:

a. For Server Alias box, enter Dev Hat (You can call this anything you want, its just the label name)
b. In the irc.trillian.com::6667 box, enter irc.devhat.net:6667
c. Nickname, Username, User Info boxes, enter what you want to be known as
d. Automatically Connect ... checkbox, your choice

4. click Change button

a. On the Connection tab, under Perform Buffer
b. check the After successful connection... checkbox
c. type in /join #dgdk-net in the text box
d. click the Save Settings button

5. Click the Connect button

6. Your Firewall may complain at this point

7. A new window "IRC - Dev Hat" opens

8. you can now Close the Trillian Preferences window

2 other things:

One, on the Identity Panel, a new IRC connection "ball" appears, right mouse click it , choose Show Status Window to view the MOTD on the devhat server.

Two, click Disconnect when you are done.

Hopes this helps.
