Ok I have a problem...whenever I try to load either a .x or .3ds object...the program freezes...if I remove the "Load "level.x" line...it runs just fine

Any ideas as to why?

How big is your model? Could be too large to handle efficiently. Generally, models shoukld be no more than 2000 - 3000 polys, but the majority should be far smaller than this.

your scaling the model by 1000, it might be so large that its not visible in the cameras viewport.

to test this you need to run a mini script that loads something irrespective of the cameras position, it will automatically frame the 3d model.

naturally swap and remark these lines.

you need to make sure that the model has its texture with it as well if its appearing white or greyish.

I've had this problem with some large .3ds files. Try converting it to an .x file

X files are HUGE, Johaness. Assuming file size is his problem - and it almost certainly is.

Frozen - it's probably file size. Be careful about using high poly models, such as landscapes.

Hmm...Well if what Batvink says is true...then mine is WAY to big haha.
The model is a portion of my entire gaming world...and..well...its a heightmap on a plane with a 175 x 175 grid lol 61250 polygons...
So I need to reduce it to many other pieces to like 2000 / 3000 each right? or would that not work if i load all of them anyways?

Thanks in advance

Oops...also I tried reducing the scales cause I figured the camera was INSIDE of the object...but that didn't work either.

The .3ds to .x convert doesn't work, it still froze while trying to load the object...AND more then doubled the size of the file.

I tried the Mini Script you mentioned Indi...and It runs fine with the Cube...but still just a blank screen with the object so I will try to change the polygons as I said, will post back with outcome!

Yes x files can be huge. But the problem is with large 3ds files.

175x175 grid, 61250 polygons. Is definitely not ideal and best to split up the terrain into sectors.

But just for the heck of it:
175x175 grid-61250 polygon mesh
3DS = 1.3mb - Does not load (Waited 30+secs)
X(text) = 19mb - Loads
X(Binary)= 7.8mb - Loads
X(BinaryCompressed) = 1.2mb - Loads

Attached: All 4 types in a Rar (1.3mb)

[EDIT]
If I remember correctly, there is a polygon cap with 3ds files. I think it was about 50k. If thats right then the 3ds export probably got truncated, garbled and confused.
