Hi Guys,

By request, I have added a new sticky to make the RC2 update more accessable to all. There is an RC3 being worked on, but it is not much more than RC2, which has received some good feedback so for the moment use this version as the latest one:

http://www.fpscreator.com/betafiles/FPS_Creator_V105_RC2_120307.zip
http://www.fpscreator.com/betafiles/V105RC2-Files.zip

V1.0.5 RC2 - 12/03/07
---------------------

* Modified firewall detection so that a true IP Address is detected and used for info and HOSTING (whatismyip.php)
* Restored ability for lightmapper to delete old lightmap files, which caused game sizes to swell over time
* Modified BUMPBONE shader so full effect characters are not semi-transparent by default
* Added additional thread and memory checks to the lightmapper, to catch unusual behaviour on some systems
* Added parameter to USEWEAPON FPI action to allow the throwing of flak to provide strength (100=full/50=half)
* Updated the core AI scripts for all default characters, giving them a more direct purpose (more predicatable behaviour)
* Added collision data to all voids in a scene so characters cannot run off ledges - better behaviour overall
* Added collision data radar to entity debug information mode so collision interactions can be visualised

V1.0.5 RC1 - 09/03/07
---------------------

* Changed V103/V105 texts in all languages to V105
* Fixed bug to restore ability to move the selection area splitter (making property area wider)
* Fixed bug to restore the colour dialog on the object properties field
* Selecting EDIT LOADING SCREEN without selecting a level no longer freezes the editor
* Reverted to DirectX OCTOBER 2006 (d3dx9_31.dll) due to compatibility issues with 1.X Shaders
* Replaced DirectX detector with simpler method, earlier in the Editor Initialisation Phase
* Reduced lightmapquality to 10 in setup.ini (reduces texture consumption by 800%)
* Fixed bug causing lightmapper to use an old mesh buffer after secondary UV added (replace=true)
* Ensured New Arena and Arena tab work in the new update of the FPS Creator interface
* Added code to verify no firewall is blocking communication with gamelist server, else useful error
* Added additional text when IP of local LAN detected, instructing user that any HOSTing is local only
* New mode added to 'lightmapthreadmax' from SETUP.INI. Mode -2 instructs the engine not to use threads

I don't really need this but I'm glad to hear that us X9ers hav't been shoved in a hole and forgotten. Any idea if rag doll and/or Dark AI are possibilities in V1.05? Also are any multiplayer updates possible? AKA a feature like in X10 where you can set characters alliance? So in MP it would allow you to set teams? I would like that a lot more than rag-doll IMO. Can't wait for the next update,

Wow it all sounds very nice, I'm quite excited!

Sadly I don't know yet if this will work, I posted something in the Bug reports section because every time I used v104 with lightmapping on, what happened was all the segments, um... broke, they went all jaggedy and it no longer looked like a map, just a confusing "cave of splinters" (take a look here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=106815&b=28)

Anyhow, as I say, I've updated all my drivers and DirectX, updated everything that's updateable, so now I'll update FPSC and hope for the very best: I'm praying this will work, some of the updates you've added will be really useful!

Thanks, and looking forward to this!

~ CS/Jack

P.S. Congrats to Rick for his birthday this month!

EDIT: Woo how nice, I was first to post! Oh yeah, and when will the DBPro source to this edition's FPSC-Game be released? Or is it already?

Its a great update. I already have it but its still a useful sticky. The only problem with this and the last few updates though, is that the program won't even build the game executable anymore. That needs to be fixed.

Eh? How does that make sense? After clicking the Post Message button, I read through the replies and mine was directly after Lee's! (Grrrr I'm so angry now!!!) Heh heh lol I hadn't put the edit in first, so I could check if I was first.

Well, it's all very nice work, but what's this about then eh?

It built an executable for me only a small level but at 512x512 textures and full lightmapping.

i'll give a large level ago later and see what happens

If you follow the instructions in the readme there is a q & a which will give you info on how to adjust stuff like the setup.ini file...which should correct that problem if I remember correctly.
I have been using RC2 for a while now and (after I made the necessary adjustments) it seems to work well for me.
Now I'm just waiting on the overhaul for the enemy AI (hint, hint).
Thanks,Lee,for posting this.Now I won't get the "I can't find the latest update" anymore.

Your what works fine, Slayer222?

Your segments, your game builder or your entities in a loaded saved game?

All thoughs were mentioned in this thread as issues so far. No one can know what issues of the three your mean unless you actually say it. I think you meant my enetites issue but I'm really not sure. Your reply was equally helpfull for all issues I'm sure.

Thanks

RC2 works fine for me, just tried building a game with 20 levels for a test and for some unknown reason it crashes that the start and closes FPSC, i removed some maps and found out that i can only have up to 6 level in one game.

I don't know if its just my FPSC, but if you test it and tell me what happens that would make me happy, i also emailed Lee about this.

I also found another bug, is when you kill a bad guy and you collect his weapon, then you save the game then load it back up, you see the gun again but can't pick it up.

Edit: I posted the bug in the bug report forum room.

Good news folks. Lee will be taking some days off X10 next week to optimise X9. This will mean your games will run faster! He's been busy doing the same work on X10 and has found some big bottlenecks in the main game loop. So expect a new version soon.

We are also working on a system called "TGC Store". This will allow us and selected third parties to publish new entities and segments direct to you via the main object selection window. It means you can just buy the objects you want. You buy credits from TGC and then spend them in this "live" store - a bit like iTunes for FPSC! More on this when we have it closer to completion.

Cheers,

Rick

Hello,

I have several questions regarding FPSC update 1.05. First of all, do I have to have v105 RC1 installed to use v105 RC2? Also, I currently have v104 installed on my computer. If I install v105, will it overwrite v104, or will I have two versions of FPSC running simultaneously? I hope someone can enlighten me on this matter, because I think that v105 is looking quite good...

Thanks,

Pols Voice

The new version 'was' to be V105 RC3, but the naming has somewhat become unsuitable. Instead, we shall call it V106. We shall spend a dedicated week starting the 18th of June 2007 beating this new version into shape. Mainly attending to the major bug reports, but also a few speed optimizations that I have learned about while working on X10. Nothing massive, just some areas that I noticed the old engine did rather less efficiently than could have otherwise been coded. For example, X10 can entirely skip the universe construction phase if you did not change anything that was solid, and skip the lightmapping if you did not change any lights, which in some tests took a 2 minute build and reduced it to 20 seconds.

Why this week? Well I have just finished some key optimizations in X10, and built a good beta version which will now be tested by our beta testers. While they are doing that, and knocking off many fixed bugs from the database, I can sneak out of the X10 cave and come join you guys in the sunlight for a while.

My hope is by Friday we will have beaten RC2 for stability and speed, and we can release an official V106 on the main update site.
