WOW! That's impressive. I've had problems getting the latest DX installed so I've not tried the game before.

A few thoughts:

1. Make both CTRL and SPACE as fire buttons, SPACE is more common (I think) and my personal choice for a 1 button game.

2. When the text started to appear in the intro I pressed fire to make it switch to the next text faster and was sad that it ended the intro, use ESC to skip the intro instead.

3. Enter is used in the menu, why not use the fire button instead? Then nobody would have to guess. Also make the menu "go around" so you can jump from start game to exit by pressing up.

4. I accidently switched from keyboard to joystick in the options and could not change it back with the keyboard. Personally I don't understand why you can't have both active at the same time.

5. After I quit the game I checked the setup again and it seams that if I select not windowed it changes to 640x480 when I launch the setup file, and changes it to 1024x768 when not windowed is selected. It's not possible to set the resolution in not windowed.

6. The game does not support wide screen resolutions (I have 1280x800 on my laptop). Maybe too much to bother with?

7. The screen between levels uses the mouse, could this be handled with the keyboard/joystick instead? Also, the sword buying could be made more userfriendly. SPACE to continue is a bit weird, either add a button to click or select with keyboard/joystick.

8. I upgraded my vitality to 10 and according to the screen I should have 5 hearts but in the game I only had 4.

9. Make ESC bring up a prompt to exit to main menu, quit the game or resume playing. Can be used to pause the game. Pressing ESC again should resume the game. Use arrows and fire to navigate the menu. Could be: Main menu, Quit to windows, Resume game.

I'll be playing this game some more later, it seems quite fun. I got a PS to USB converter so I can use a Dualshock 2

Thanks

I think I'm gonna look at your other games as well. Don't expect a reply from me soon, it depends on when I have time to play.

I like the overall look of your new site but it would be better with image thumbnails for your screen shot galleries.

Also it would probably be nicer if your left menu didn't have links to all pages available at all time, only the links to the pages in the current section.

It keeps saying I don't have DX 9.0c when I do, it says I just have DX 9.0... and that i'm missing d3dx9_25.dll.

There are many versions of DX 9.0c. Try running the DX installer included with Lionheart.

Dj Thunder:
I've played through the first 4 levels (including caves) and these are some suggestions that I think will improve the game although they will make your remake different from the original.

1. I've mentioned the look of the character screen and I think you should do something more in line with the rest of the game, and fully operational with a joystick.

2. It's very annoying to loose a whole life from falling down considering getting hurt from enemies only takes one heart while they are much easier to avoid not to mention the massive amount of healing potions available (far too many if you ask me, but then it's the beginning of the game so it should be easy). I would suggest that falling into the water only causes 1-2 hearts of damage, 2 would be more in line with the original. Some platforms are very small.

3. This is a platformer and not an RPG and I suggest that the swords should have a fixed amount of damage from 1 to 5. You could also consider forcing the player to only upgrade to the next sword instead of choosing.

4. Why not allowing both keyboard and joystick controls at the same time. Is there a reason why we have to choose?

5. There's no sound when you "loop around" the menu.

6. At the bottom left of the 2nd cave the player can get through the wall and fall off the map.

Okay guys, Lionheart Remake is now as v3.0 SDK

Why SDK ? Try to download it, you will see by yourself ( opened data )

Lionheart Remake - v3.0

"4. Why not allowing both keyboard and joystick controls at the same time. Is there a reason why we have to choose?"
Because if your pad is bugged, the game won't be easy to play with the keyboard ... so it is as a security. You see ?

Ah, see

How about a list of updates?

I just started playing FFXII so I'm not very likely to try the new version any time soon.

Oh, a thought on the falling down and sword stuff. You could have a switch in the options to use either original or new settings. That way people can chose what they prefer.

Ok, let's go to a new version: Lionheart Remake : Evolved ( v1.0 )

I'm working on this new one.
What's news ?

New Levels ( i think about themes )
Enhanced Levels ( many details, like the moon ... )
More Monsters ( for each levels )
Enhanced player movement ( new animations )
New game core ( probably faster ... i will see )
New Level Editor ( better than the previous release ... and easier )
And probably more ... let the future speak ...

See you for the next release

Having a simple problem...

I ran the game and loved the intro, very retro, brings me back a ways.

However, once the intro ended (or I press Esc) the screen goes black and stays black, I even left it there (in case it was loading) and went for a 10 minute smoke break, came back and nothin'.

I'd really like to play this and see what it's capable of, any suggestions?

Some info:

-I'm running on Vista
-I set the compatability mode to Windows XP (SP2) after I discovered I couldn't play

Hummm

If the intro works, the game has to work

Lionheart Remake Evolved is really advanced.
I just finished scripts for the last levels, finished to include a new World ( Secret World ), all monsters are now included too ...

I will make a trailer ... later ...

I agree with Rami, the movie is really cool. I've not played much yet so I don't know exactly what's new but I think I can make a good guess. The rope "pull up" is pretty cool.

Lionheart Remake Evolved is now as Multilanguage ( Francais & English )

If anyone can help me for Deutsch ( ich spreche deutsch ein bishen ... not enough :p ) it would be great.
Spanish too

And more language if possible, but i need help too

It is just 4 *.txt to translate, not a lot of text

The final game size may be about 3-4mo ... lighter than previous version ( more than 15mo )

Here the latest fixlist for Evolved version:

I like the list of updates. Except you haven't changed the penalty of falling of the screen from 1 life to 1 or 2 hearts. Like in Zelda for example you only loose 1 heart from falling down. I think this is a much better method because it's much easier to fall down then to actually get hurt by an enemy and yet you are punished much harder.

I don't recall if this is already in or not but I don't wanna start the game from the beginning after loosing all my lives. Is there a support for save files? If not I think you should add them or some other solution.

Don't worry
Since v2.0, a save was already included.
For example, you finished the level3, you loose, you exit the game, start another day, choose continue, then you will start on the level3

But ok, i'm agree with you.
If you fall under the water, you will loose only one heart, not one life.

Excuse me ... but when you have played Lionheart since you was 5 years old ... you can't really see "what is hard" & "what is easy"

But you are here, thanks Digital Awakening.

If anyone would like to add something, feel free.
The release is about 96%, be quick

Yeah, the falling down part will irritate anyone playing for the first time but if you're used to playing then you will have the jumps figured out perfectly. There are a lot of really small platforms on the first level and it may cause players to stop playing the game completely out of frustration.

I'm looking forward to pick up playing on your next release if the falling penalty is "fixed"

Ok thanks. Good player

I think i will re-build all levels, and be sure the difficulty won't be too hard for the firsts levels.

Or better: There are; Easy, Normal, Hard, Lionhard, Extrem
There are 15 levels.
I can make 15 Levels for each difficulty.
If you play in easy, the 15 levels would have to be really easy, with just one or two small platforms.

Hum ... it sounds long to do ... lol

Ok, go back to my code

PS: "falling down part" fixed

I guess it wouldn't be too hard to do separate maps if you just make multiple copies of the ones you have and then just make small changes on the tricky parts. And rather then have different amounts of life at the start I think it may be a better idea to regulate the amount of potions and extra lives as well as the amount of monsters.

5 difficulty settings might be a bit much. I think 3 would do fine with separate maps and then you have an expert setting where you have to play through the hard version with only 1 life (no extra lives allowed, they are turned into potions instead).

Happy coding
