I was wondering if DarkBasic Pro could be used to program games for a console system. Specifically, I'd love to code a game that my friends and I could play on the PS2. I also have XBOX, XBOX 360 and Wii but my preferred console is PS2. Does anyone know if this is possible and if there are any tutorials or other info on the subject to be found on the web? Thanks for your help guys.

According to TGC you can't make games for consoles.
I however would like to play DBPro games on a console.
I'm sure someone may hake DBPro to play games on a console.
If you are looking for a near console experiance you could buy one of those gamepads and plug you PC into a TV.

I think Darkbasic uses DirectX and i dont think consoles use or will have the correct DirectX, and the console will not work the same as a computer.

I know nothing about consoles and from what I've read, I have to believe that DB cannot be used to write console games.

I too thought it was due to requiring DirectX.

However, doesn't the XBox use DirectX? And that's a question from someone who doesn't actually know...

Even if it does, there's bound to be lots of other reasons why you can't use DB anyway!

Well most console dont use DirectX becuase its a windows thing, and consoles have protection so you cant play games which arnt writen to CD/DVD in a pecific way or contain certain codes and files, so you would need a modifyed console to play it.

And it says on the description of DBC/DBP that it cant be used for console games and only on computers with DirectX.

I have trying running a darkbasic program/games on a computer with out DirectX and a computer with a low DirectX and most things did not load and gave loads of error messages.

To begin console dev I would go with something like this and C++. While it's not the XBOX, it can definately educate you on console design and programming, and it's cheap enough to toy around with.

For better hardware and graphics console design & dev I would take a look at GP2X

The original XBox is x86 and uses direct x, however, DB requires windows as well so it's not possible.

Ah I see - as I said, I've never been interested in consoles and I just assumed (mistakenly it seems) that the XBox was a PC in a box - along with DirectX and some form of Windows.

Obviously it's not!

Well, the Xbox IS really just a PC dressed up in a fancy case. But that doesn't mean it is compatible with windows programs.

They're making Intel Macs. It's exactly the same thing. It might be the same processor, but the operating system is not made to be compatible with EXE files. Just like the Xbox. Even though it is made by microsoft with an intel cpu, it cannot run EXEs.
